“Pure bliss from view to food, room and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

I stayed here for a weekend and it remains one of my favourite hotels of all time. It is pure tranquil from the moment you step in the door to taking in the view from the bedrooms. My boyfriend tried out surfing whilst I watched from the warmth and luxury of the room. The food was great and I loved the dining room glass restaurant. Refreshing to look at the waves crashing whilst eating an amazing brekkie..... Which is served to you....none of the usual buffet affairs that you so often get. Can't wait to go back!

“Fell asleep listening to the Ocean...wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

Wow, amazing to fall asleep listening to the ocean every night! Our room overlooked the ocean. It was a quiet weekend and not many people were staying at the hotel. The fireplace downstairs was warm but you cannot eat or drink right there next to it. Our room was huge as was the bathroom. While I agree that some basic renovations may make the rooms more modern that didn't detract from the cleanliness at all. The food was amazing! the chocolate cake with chocolate sauce was my downfall! I slept like a rock every night. My only complaint was actually about the beach. While walking along I noticed that there was an extreme amount of dog feces all around. In the States we are supposed to pick up after our dogs and it doesn't appear the same rules apply here. Watch where you step!

“If you want a relaxing weekend break-this is it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2010

Falling asleep to the sound of the sea is simply bliss!!! So my one big tip if you're going to stay in the sandhouse is to 'ask for a seaview room'. We had only booked a standard room but upon arrival, we happened to ask if there was any seaview rooms still available and the very pleasant receptionist was more than happy to accomodate our request.
If you're looking for a crazy party weekend, then the Sandhouse probably isnt the destination for you, but it truly is an old-school romantic, relaxing hotel. A long walk on the beach and a pint at smugglers creek is recommended too. The surfing looked like great fun aswell! And the food in the restaurant was divine with excellent service ( the new dining room now looks over the sea too which really makes a difference). I'll definetly be back!

“Up your game Sandhouse”

We stayed here recently and had been really looking forward to our break away. The hotel is situated on a magnificant beach with fantastic views. Luckily we were given a very large room with a great sea view. I would agree with the previous poster in relation to the price, this hotel relies too heavily on the setting and not the other aspects of the hotel. It is extremely outdated in decor and services. The fact that when you drive so far to get there and there isn't much else around means you're not going to change your mind anyway. For a "4 star hotel", they have a tv which dates back to the 1980's with 2 just about visible channels. No minibar, no information in the room regarding room service, dinner in the restaurant. In fact, we were never asked if we would like to dine there for dinner and we saw no menu up to check for ourselves. (We went to Smugglers creek and had a lovely meal.) The bathroom was funtional and clean but not really 4 star modern. The hairdryer was not even worth talking about. Breakfast is served for a limited time and check-out is at 11am. The staff are very pleasant and breakfast was delicious and thankfully included in the price. Our stay was for a weekend during August, we arrived quite late on Friday but expected there to be some life about since there was a surfing competion on the beach the next day - nope, a couple of people in the surfers bar and that was it. We didn't try again the following night. For the view I would love to come back, but for the price no way. Seriously, so much more could be done to make this hotel a true four star experience.
