“Basic but Comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 June 2011

We stayed here two nights in May 2011 and found the accommodation to be basic, but comfortable. The property is a fair way out of Portree, down a single lane road shared with the sheep, definitely a nice quiet spot. We had a family room with a travel cot as we were travelling with our nine month old daughter and a high chair was provided at breakfast for her which was great.
Unfortunately the carpet in our room must have gotten wet at some stage as there was a horrible damp smell in the room which wasn't great, but other than that the room was comfortable and clean. We had an ensuite which was very small but sufficient.
Free wifi was useful too.
The hosts Laurence and Linda were friendly and helpful and the breakfast very nice.

“Welcoming B&B out in the country.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2011

Lovely B&B on a single track road outside of Portree. Lurance and Linda run a nice rural B&B in their home which is also a sheep farm. The facility is farly basic but spotleslly clean and well positioned outside of Portree and for exploring the northern half of Skye.

“Great Value on Skye”

We made a last minute reservation for two nights at Cul na Creagan near Portree. It is truly one of those nice surprises that has not yet been inundated by the masses who post reviews on TripAdvisor. This is a modern croft house about 2.5 miles up a smooth single track road from Portree. It has a gorgeous view of Portree and the surrounding countryside. When you arrive expect to meet Spot the dog and possibly even Jeff the cat. The owner Linda and Laurence were helpful, friendly and approachable.

We were in room #1. It had lots of space and could easily accommodate the fold-out cot which was tucked in the closet. The bathroom was huge. It had a full tub with shower typical of the surface mount units that we have seen in other UK B&Bs. That means that it is a bit high to access and had little in the way of assistance handles to aid entry and exit. The red bed linen was shocking when we rolled back the covers, but this should not be an issue as the color disappears when the lights go out. Everything was neat, clean, functional and where it should have been.

Breakfast was good with a wide selection of juices, fruit and cereals as well as an awesome Full Scottish breakfast sans the haggis. There were no children present during our stay, but it is obvious that this place is equipped to handle kids as there were two high chairs tucked in the corners of the lounge where breakfast is served.

Overall, Cul na Creagan is a great value choice on the Isle of Skye. It is very well located for touring. You are not smothered with fancy curtains and unusable furniture found in high end design magazines. This place fits well for people (families) with a car who do not need to be in the center of town. It gets top rating in our book. We would definitely return given the opportunity.

“A quiet night in a peaceful and beautiful environment”

We had been travelling all day long from Prestwick Airport, we took the ferry in Mallaig, drove many miles when we eventually got to Cul Na Creagan. We immediately liked the location, the house is quite normal but the environment is beautiful (check the pic taken from our window). The owner, extremely friendly, made us feel at ease immediately. The house is well located, not far from the lovely harbour of Portree where we went for dinner (you'll need a car though). Then we had a great and peaceful rest, the room was small but cosy, a good scottish breakfast in the morning, played a bit with Spot, the friendly family dog, and we were ready to discover the Isle of Skye. The owner recommended us to go to Coral Beach (near Dunvegan) and we loved it! Thanks for the tip, Coral Beach is amazing! ...

“LIKE COMING BACK TO FAMILY AFTER A LONG ABSENCE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

Linda and Lawrence have what's basically home from home! Has a comfortable and secure family feeling the minute you walk in the door and are greeted by the big friendly house dog . Everyone is welcome from my old mum to my small pet dog and we were so well looked after that it was over and above anything you'd expect.
We were actually moving house and spent 2 weeks in Cul Na Creagan waiting for the keys to the new place...during that time, we had no worries as any information or advice we needed was to hand , the B&B is near enough Portree for anything you might need , yet far enough for peace as well.
Linda and Lawrence looked after my 90 year old mum as if she was her own, my teenage daughter and myself as if we were sisters.
We can't recommend Cul Na Creagan highly enough!
