“Don't expect an early night ... or porridge AND a cooked breakfast.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

Very convenient for the town centre and couldn't really fault it for cleanliness. However we were there on a Friday and Saturday night. On both nights there was music coming from next door establishments until well after midnight. Not very good music at that. It sounded more like karaoke one night until they played a Shadows song. Breakfast was unusual in that you had to go to the bistro bar next door (so put more than your slippers on your feet when you go down). Scottish accommodation is famous for its hearty breakfasts. Not here. You can have fruit juice OR cereal. Then porridge OR a cooked breakfast OR croissants (or one of 3-4 other options). And make sure that you make your single cup of tea last. So go there - if you like a light breakfast from the bar next door, and you're lucky enough to be there on a night when the local musical talent are performing elsewhere.

“Very lucky escape!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

When we arrived we were unable to park at the hotel. We were informed that 'lunchers' had as much right to park there as guests had. Receptionist was completely disinterested and very uncommunicative. The smell in the hotel was rather unpleasant as we headed to our room. We were barely in the room 60 seconds when we decided to make our escape. The charge was £80 which is ridiculous. We then headed to the Ellisland Hotel (5 minute walk away). This hotel, which charged the same room rate, was superb. We had a beautiful room, great dinner and breakfast, lovely staff, beautiful setting - in fact it was perfect! If you are considering Ayrshire and Galloway Hotel please check out the Ellisland first!

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2009

Good location for shops, restaurants and bars. Room was clean (as was the rest of the hotel) and beds comfortable. Parked car in hotel car park (although parking space is limited). Great breakfast in hotel restaurant next door. Good prices in hotel public bar for drinks and wide range of snacks.

“A Shame - central but very noisy from inside and out”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 March 2009

The Hotel is more of a Public House with rooms above than a hotel. One Star Hotel at best.

The rooms are functional but not comfortable, the beds are old, as are the televisions (they do have Sky, but you watch through snow).

The walls are paper thin and you can hear ever word of the conversation from the room next door. I was in a room on the street so I got a double hit of noise.

Did not sleep until very late, will not be back

“Hysterical Maniac Answered the Phone”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2008

Fortunately, I had a lucky escape with this one! I called to check availabiity and room tarrifs on a particlar night. The middle-aged/older-sounding 'lady' who answered the phone sounded bored and irritated. She started off by leaving long silences, then became sarcastic and ended up screaming like a maniac!

Then she hung up. Thank God.
