We barely got in the door before they asked us to pay up. All payments were in advance, which is NOT how things are normally done in Scotland. I've stayed at over 20 hotels and B&Bs over 6 years and never had to pay in advance. Then, after she saw our card was not signed (a security risk in the U.S.) we offered to go to the ATM to go get her cash. We were tired and had been sight-seeing all day, and asked if we could bring our baggage to the room that we had already carried inside. She refused outright, and said that we weren't going any further before we paid, that we'd have to take our bags outside, and that if we liked, we could just go somewhere else. Immediately after that she said she preferred if we go somewhere else, and told us to leave. We had barely said a word during this, but promptly told her how rude she was being. She said that we were being rude, and told us to get out.
We were on our way out when we saw two other guests, and asked them advice on another B&B we could stay at. She came outside yelling at us and told us to get out of her driveway and stop talking to her customers. Then she started arguing with us, and with THEM about the rules of the place, and how rude we were. The other guests weren't even a part of that issue until she argued with them. We just couldn't believe how rude this woman was. There was no excuse for her behavior.
So there we were, just engaged to be married, on vacation, and looking for lodging and we're treated like trash. I've never had this horrible of an experience, here or in the U.S. I would give this place zero stars if it were possible, but it deserves less than that.
