“Fantastic Castle Experience with Lovely Hosts”

My father, 7-yr-old son, and I stayed at this wonderful castle on our British Open trip this summer -- 2 nights with the Moncreifs, husband and wife who were gracious hosts. Turning off the rural road, driving up the wooded lane, and rounding the bend brought us to the breathtaking grounds of this centuries' old home...peacocks and exotic trees, the witches maze, dogs scampering through the lawn. The inside was grand and cozy all at once. The breakfasts were fresh and delicious in the downstairs sitting room, complete with ancient fireplace and comfy leather chairs. The upstairs great hall featured a fireplace large enough for several people to sit in while warming hands and toes.

Lord Moncreif had taken the time to research our family name's presence in the area, having heard that we were looking for old roots. He was prepared on our arrival with maps, local knowledge books, and lots of interesting stories about the surrounding towns and landscape.

Our bedrooms were traditionally decorated and very comfortable - bedding was especially cozy. We walked the spiral stairs in the tower to reach our bathroom, which was contemporary/completely up-to-date...could have been straight out of a higher-end modern B&B. The location of the castle is excellent for visiting the coast to the east, the inland west, and Edinburgh. Everything is so close by in the this small country that we took in many sights and different types of geography in a short while. We were able to stay here the night before our early morning departure from Edinburgh Airport without a problem.

Overall, very highly recommended. We will most certainly come back the next time we are in Scotland!

“We don't even want to write a review... it was that amazing”

Really, writing a review for this place is probably jeopardizing our ability to stay there ever again.

Where to start?
There are peacocks galore, a complicated hedge maze, AN ENTIRE GREAT HALL, and spacious bed and bath.

Incredible history and knowledgeable hosts! Could not ask for a better combination. The Moncreiffs answered all of our detailed questions about the castle's history (and the interesting business of insuring a castle). They also offered to take pictures, and helped us find our way to the park-and-ride in Edinburgh. We appreciated the nice bathroom products (after sub-par soaps, shampoos etc. at other places). One note: the bedroom has separate beds (as indicated on their website) so if you are traveling with a significant other just make sure to snuggle in front of the giant fireplace before bedtime.

The best part of this place has to either be the Great Hall (which you get all to yourself, compete with all the interesting contents & a lot of good books to look at) OR the dinner we enjoyed with our hosts. If you have the time to have a sit down dinner here you will not regret it -- venison, pheasant and a special gin! Everything is delicious, beautifully presented and the majority of the ingredients are from the property. This was a real treat.

If you are looking for a great castle experience, skip the overprice, over restored places and come see the real thing.

We only spent one night at the Castle but what a wonderful experience. The castle is fascinating and the accommodation so comfortable. Everything you could possibly need was supplied. The Moncriefs were so hospitable and the breakfast was delicious. If we are ever back in Scotland we will definitely return.

All l have for this wonderful place is words of praise, from the moment we arrived till the last day. When we arrived we were served tea, sandwiches and scones and had a pleasant talk with the lord and lady Moncrieff. They were ever so helpful and went out their way to make it as comfortable as possible. Little things such as water bottles everywhere you turn, to smoked kippers for breakfast made our stay truly remarkable. One day we planned a trip that required getting up at 5.a.m. and we were set off with a box of fresh strawberries even though we said breakfast wasn't necessary. They were also very helpful with advice as to which sites to visit and where to go. We only had 4 days in Scotland, but staying in a place so rich in history, beautiful landscape and tranquility made it well worth the trip and the money.

“Highly recommend it !!”

A friend and I took a driving tour of Scotland in May and stayed at Tullibole Castle for 2 nights. It is so lovely and old, with turrets and stone spiral staircases. We stayed in the only room they offer. A large twin/king room with fireplace and private bath. This castle has been in the Moncreiff family since the early 1600's. Just beautiful.
Our hosts were very hospitable and gracious; I would recommend having dinner with them( they charge for this as a restaurant would)...the upside being a wonderful local meal and time spent meeting and visiting with the people of Scotland.
Breakfast was delicious and fresh.
I would definately recommend this castle experience and look forward to visiting with the Moncreiff's on our next visit to Scotland.
I found them via Google and entering Tullibole Castle Scotland or Wolsey Lodges( a B&B marketing company). They have photos there and alot of history about the castle.
