I stayed at the Abermar a couple of years ago on my solo trip through the UK. I was there for two nights and the owners, James and Allison couldn't be sweeter. As soon as I landed, she helped me plan my day and gave me the a run down of the rules (It is a non-smoking establishment and are rather strict about it) But then again, I really didn't mind. I just needed a place to put up for the night after a hard day of walking around and taking photographs and this was really perfect.
I stayed in a deliciously cute single room. Clean and tastefully done with a window to the east. The room had en-suite facilities and had wifi which was again free. The full Scottish breakfast was great and James ensured I was well fed and rationed up for my whole day excursion. They have a cute living room which is also open to guests to unwind on the ground floor. The Abermar is in a quiet neighborhood across the river and the city centre is at 8-10 minutes walking distance.
Would love to be back.
