Was in Scotland for combined worktrip and holiday dec 2011. Was reccomended to the Glenmoriston and stayed there for a night.
The check-in was nice and smotth, and the bar and restaurant looked very nice, and quite four-star...
Only problem is, the rest didn´t even live up to 2+ standard. Hadn´t checked tripadvisor before, so i wasn´t really prepared for the room 11 standard, with a bathroom, impossible for taking a shower in, a door that was hard to get in to, because of the firedoor(!) that was in the way. The non functioning five pound wifi, the moist-damaged walls, the cracked bathroom floor and the general, rugged, seventies youth hostel-feel of the halls, corridors and stairs, didn´t help either, together with the lack of elevator, the time it took to find room 11 (since no one was there to help and the roomdoor was hidden behind the firedoor, and the grumpy, depressed waitress at breakfast (a sloppy, tasteless and nohearted breakfast by the way) makes me feel sorry for the people living in hotels with less than the four stars The Glenmoriston wears.
I did sleep ok, though, and the view and location are superb.
Choose the hotel for a long weekend and was not disappointed. Had seen some of the reviews on here and was a bit dubious. Found the hotel to be excellent and a fantastic location on the banks of the River Ness. Staff were very helpful and friendly. A very good breakfast plenty of choice and a first class restaurant. A well stocked bar which is always a plus. Just a few minutes walk into the city centre and lots of excellent restaurants to choose from in the city. Would definitely return to this hotel and recommend.
I am on a cross Scotland vacation with my husband and have recently stayed for two of the most unpleasant nights of my entire visit. This is not a four star hotel. It is a bed & breakfast with a need for great improvement. Reception is uneducated about Inverness as a whole and it seems like quite a bother for them to serve their customers. There is no lift so guests most carry their luggage up three flights of stairs with no offer of help from staff. The waiter in the bar was very unfriendly and disappeared for 30 minutes after serving us our first drink, probably hoping he would find us gone and not have to work anymore that evening.Housekeeping is very loud in the morning and can be heard gossiping and complaining about other staff. This is not the way I like to wake up in the morning on a holiday..No hot water, these things happen but was never fixed nor did we get a room transfer. The breakfast was cold and greasy with very little selection for such a high room rate. Wifi didn't work nor did I receive a refund. I asked to speak with a manager about my concerns but there was no manager on duty. Absolutely shameful! Their website is misleading and I will be contacting authorities to investigate this business as I believe they should be stripped of their four star rating.
