I recently visited the University of St. Andrews for postgraduate studies and traveled to St. Andrews alone where I stayed in the Montague Guest House on the quaint (and ideally located) Murray Park. I was greeted by Gillian who owns the guest house with her husband Andrew, a professionally trained chef. In conversing with Gillian I came to find out that Andrew is originally from St. Andrews, coming from a lineage of fishermen- needless to say, the food was fantastic (local smoked salmon omelette with aged cheddar, to give you an idea). I have traveled a bit and have come to expect just about anything: small rooms, tiny bathrooms, you name it. The Montague House is one of the most charming and CLEAN places I have ever stayed. Gillian and Andrew have gone out of their way to keep the traditional character of each room (Gillian was nice enough to show me a few of the 8 rooms) while subtly upgrading things like light fixtures, heat racks, and water faucets. In short, let me put it this way- should I be moving to St. Andrews in the near future, my family and friends will be staying at the Montague House when they come to visit!
