We're big fans of Wetherspoons, this was our first stay in one of their hotels. Stayed hogmannay for the one night on one of their stay/champagne deals at £89 - we didn't pay this - ended up paing less than £70!
Don't let the dingy outside put you off. GPS found the hotel no problem, got checked in by a very friendly & helpful receptionist. Discovered the room rate was £39/room - we were getting charged the £39 only, no champagne - the receptionist went to the bar attached to the hotel & got us a bottle from there (in an ice bucket with two glasses) & charged it to our toom - total cost for room & champagne £68.50 - breakfast was paid to the bar this morning at time of ordering as with any other Wetherspoons pub.
The room was clean & comfortable with good quality towels & a fantastic shower. The tv got good reception & all digital channels. Plenty of tea & coffee sachets & oaty biscuits on the tray. There were plenty hangers in the wardrobe & extra bedding should you need it. The room was also very warm (we were on the third floor)
Now the bad points - the hotel def needs a makeover! There was peeling wallpaper & scuffs all over the place. In parts, I think the paper had taken off the plaster behind - you could see this had been plastered over. We were also advised to walk up the stairs instead of taking the lift - don't know if it didn't work or was noisy. We also had problems using the wifi in the pub.
For the price & friendliness of the staff, this hotel was first class & at £39/night you get what you pay for. Would def go back again & try another Wetherlodge.
