Working in Glenrothes so the location of this hotel was perfect for me, & everything needed was in the one building. The bar downstairs is a typical Weatherspoons layout with the 'usual' clientele who seem to spend their whole waking lives in pubs, this comment isnt aimed at the pub chain at all, it is just a fact. Taking the review from when you turn up; 1. The free carpark is in dire need of resurficeing, there are pot holes a plenty & they are deep, if your in a low/sports car you will have a problem here, it does get busy but there is a space usually available, if not there is a huge pay & display alongside the hotel next to the bus station. There are shops next to the hotel including a newsagent, chip shop & bookie etc. 2. On entry if there is someone in reception then there is a welcome smile always, if no one is there then go into the pub to the bar & someone will go with you to check you in, i was late a few times so the reception was closed, no problems going into the bar to get someone, if you ring to let them know your going to be late then they will be ready to sort you out when you do eventually get there. 3. The lift to the floors is slow, painfully so. 4. The rooms, basic, but i stayed there pre-refit. On saying that you get a clean room with 2 bottles of water (nice touch) & biscuits etc on a tray, kettle & cups with a t.v. & plenty of towels. The radiators are electric & once you turn them on the room does warm up quickly, the windows have a secondary double glazed set up that allows some noise through from the locals leaving the bar, i believe these are beng replaced in the re-fit? The shower needs a surgeons touch, if you dont get it right it is either ice cold or boiling hot, these are being replaced too i was told? 5. The food, typical Weatherspoons, a good selection of choice, promotion nights like a steak dinner with a drink for £5.00 (i think that was the cost), smiley staff & helpful too.
Remember this is a budget hotel at £39.00 per night when i stayed pre re-fit. It is what it is really. Like i say, i was working local & this suited me down to earth, if i was to stay here as part of a holiday or break i wouldnt of been impressed to be honest.
Would i stay again? Yes if i was working local again, if they have done what they said they were going to do in the re-fit then i would stay as part of a break also. The re-fit was to address all the issues, new showers & bathrooms, re-decorating & getting rid of the peeling wallpaper in some rooms & a general update.
Again a honest review of yet another working away from home budget hotel.
