“I just don't get it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

As a previous reviewer who stayed in the old part of the hotel (and then subsequently stayed in the much better new part) I was encouraged to stay again for longer stays due to the additional facilities, e.g. Gym/pool, and the fact that the company I work for now had a "corporate rate for deluxe rooms".

Mistakenly I thought deluxe might mean "always in the new part" but clearly I was wrong. Old part again this time and left wondering "what is deluxe"? Apart from larger bed I can see nothing. No mini bar, no power shower, no extra large LCD and not even biscuits every day of the stay. And the corporate rate seems little better than 10% off published rates. Still thin walls with sounds of blowing your nose and general talking and levels of cleanliness that are not perfect. Oh and a shower head that when you twist to try to get closer to the power shower experience just comes off - it seems good few years old! If you want to claim deluxe and take a premium for it you have to show something is deluxe.

For me, a weekly visitor to Glenrothes, it is back to my previous hotel. I did try!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent stay. We are all very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. It may be helpful if I offered the following information. You are quite right to conclude that all of the 10 new rooms at Balgeddie are graded as Deluxe. In the main building all of the rooms on the first floor have always been graded as deluxe as well.
The smaller rooms on the second floor are significantly smaller and as they more closely resemble the standard of rooms recognized as 3 star rooms by both the AA and Visit Scotland these were called ‘ standard rooms’ and priced accordingly. The original house was fortunate to have a number of larger rooms that exceed the ‘standard’ size of 3 star standard hotel rooms . These rooms were named as Deluxe and have been sold as such for many years. The New extension rooms are of a similar size to the Deluxe rooms and when these were completed we added them to our deluxe inventory. So you will understand that have deluxe rooms in both the Main Building and in the new part. Many guests prefer one part of the building to the other and we are happy to allocate in the main building or new part as to the guest preference. The quality of furnishings and equipment is the same in both sections, although understandably the style may vary. Should you wish to have one of the new rooms you need only request that.
I am sorry that you had problem with the shower I assume that you reported that during your stay to allow us to fix it for future guests.

“A nice surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We booked our stay at the Balgeddie House hotel for a couple of nights whilst I was on business, and went from 19th and 20th Jan on a 2 Night room only package, although we had breakfast and evening dinner at the hotel both nights.
The Hotel was great. It has recently undergone refurbishment with a new extension added last year. We stayed in the new extension. The hotel is located in a quiet part of town, but close enough to make the centre of town within 5 minutes in the car. The staff on site very friendly and polite.
The room was first class and we couldn't fault it, it was immaculate

The quality of the food in the Restaurant was ok, but nothing exceptional, but we did eat there on both nights (for ease really). It wasn't overpriced, it was cooked well and arrived piping hot, and there was a good selection of wines and drinks to accompany the food. The vegetarian choice for my wife was very limited, and the same options the second night.

I will definitley stay at the Balgeddie again, but may dine somehwere else to to enable my wife to have a better choice of vegetarian meals.

Room Tip: The superior room we had was superb, and located in the new part of the hotel

“best xmas break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I booked this hotel for my self and husband from 23th Dec for 10 nights. It was dinner b&b.We were in the new part of the hotel. the the room was excellent. very large and modern also spotless clean. We had the xmas dinner in the nairn suite, the meal was fab( cant see why anyone could complain, maybe they should do it at the time and not on HERE) , the staff where very good at there job. Our whole break was great. My husband was recovering from an operation and all the staff were very good with him. The manager Alan went out of his way to be helpful. suggesting local places to go and walks in the area. The dinner on new years day was by far the best meal for me, But have to say we never had a meal we didnt enjoy. Even when my husband didnt go for the dinner it was no problem for me to get sandwiches to take up to him. We didnt use the leisure centre but are planning to go back in may with my 2 grandchildren for a weekend break. fantastic place and staff. well done xx

Room Tip: all rooms in new extension are great

“A great Christmas Present”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

We booked our break at the Balgeddie House hotel as an alternative to christmas presents, and went from 6th - 9th Jan on a 2 Night DBB package with the 3rd night free B&B. The Hotel was great. It has recently undergone refurbishment with a new extension added last year. The Hotel was tucked away in a nice quiet part of town, but close enough to make the centre of town within 5 minutes in the car. The staff on site were good, polite, pleasant and helpful. The room was first class, and the Pool and facilities top notch, we couldn't fault it.

Very well surprised at the quality of the food in the Restaurant, where we ate on all 3 nights, its as good as we have had. It wasn't overpriced, it was cooked to perfection and arrived piping hot, and there was a good selection of wines and drinks to accompany the food. If there was one criticism, the portions were really much bigger than they needed to be, so there is room for cutting back without leaving Diners feeling any drop in value for money.

There is a pub onsite which had a friendly barman who was more than happy to accomodate a sad Dundee fan desperate to see the live scottish cup game.

We spent the weekend travelling around parts of Fife we hadn't been to before, or visited for some years, so the central location of Glenrothes was ideal for touring.

All in all enjoyed the Hotel very much and it is definitely on our list of Hotels we will return to.

Well worth a try.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and found the facilities comfortable. We are very lucky with our local kitchen team who have been with the hotel for many years delighting our guests with good wholesome home cooked meals.
Unfortunately Spencers Bar will not be open on your next visit . It has just closed to make way for 3 new Garden Rooms that will offer more excellent accommodation for our guests. The Garden Bar is of course still open for your pre and post dinner enjoyment.
