Fountain Court Morrison is a handily located set of serviced apartments in a typical Edinburgh apartment block, close to Haymarket station. We booked a one bedroom apartment for five nights as an alternative to a hotel. Via hotels.com the price was the same as many 3* hotels and had the benefit of a modest living room and fully equipped kitchen.
The Morrison Street property is one of a number of Fountain Court serviced apartments in Edniburgh. If you're confused about which is which, the hotel's website lists them all, giving you a bit of choice about location. There is no reception or service within this building, so you need to check-in down the street at the Grove apartments. There's no lift that we could find in the Morrison building, just a fairly steep stair.
The furnishings are not particularly exciting or fashionable, just hardwearing solid pine. There's a TV and hifi but no wireless. The kitchen was absolutely great for a self catering stay. The bed was firm and the pillows were thin, and there were no extra ones to be found.
Check-in and check-out was quick and easy, but during our stay we had a problem with the boiler, which failed one night. This meant no heating or hot water one morning. We called the reception to report the fault, and were promised someone would come and repair, but 24hrs later nothing had been done. We were too tired to make a fuss that night but called again the next morning, discovering the first call had never been logged by reception. This was the only minus point to the whole stay.
Located 5 minutes walk from Haymarket, we appreciated the convenient location and good value off-season price. I imagine these apartments are much more expensive and busy during the festival season. But for a longer stay in Edinburgh, you can save some serious money compared to a hotel room by being able to self cater.
