“Best Guest House in Edinburgh!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2010

I stay at the Drumfin on a regular basis as I deliver training courses in Edinburgh - I even find myself staying there when I make other random trips. It is a real home from home. I have stayed in every room I think, and each one is extremely clean, has a television, hair dryer, iternet access, and own private toilet. I love it, and to be honest I get more of a decent night sleep there than I do at my own house. Breakfast is always on time and Rosemary and her husband are the best hosts ever. This is actually my first experience of a guest house compared to staying at a hotel and I was very dubious to start with, however I would recommend guest houses to everyone because I actually look forward to going away now knowing that it is so chilaxing, friendly and clean. You have got to stay there if you are visiting Edinburgh. It is slo close to the city centre, airport and other amenities. Their dog Ginty is a gem and you dont even notice that she is there (much more than I can say for my hyper puppy Zac!).

“Home from home”

I stayed at Drumfin once a week for about 6 months, from November 07 to April 08, whilst working in Edinburgh (living in Manchester). Having stayed in a large number of other B&Bs and Hostels around Edinburgh, also whilst away working, I have sampled a lot of the accomodation on offer and chose to stay here every week after my first visit. My time at Drumfin was a very true respite from work and travel and I was always welcomed and felt very at home.

They are welcoming, friendly, lovely people and a pleasure to spend time with. Ginty is a nice dog, who is very well behaved but I did corrupt her a little when I stayed...

Although I stayed whilst working nearby, Drumfin would be an ideal base from which to explore Edinburgh. It is near to town, just off a regular bus route but is an enjoyable walk into / from town so long as you're not carrying too many bags!

“Drumfin was friendly and comfy”

A friend and I stayed at Drumfin the first three nights we were in Scotland, after flying into Edinburgh Airport. Rosemary was a wonderful hostess. We had a bit of confusion (our fault, not Rosemary's) the day we arrived--gave the taxi driver the wrong address and then were stranded there after he drove away. Passersby let us use their phone to call Rosemary to tell her of our plight, since we were already late from when she had been expecting us, and our intention to walk with our suitcases the several blocks to Drumfin--and instead, she drove over immediately and picked us up there. Drumfin is an easy commute to the Royal Mile on the 41 bus, and Rosemary explained all about how to do that, and even loaned us change for the bus that first day when we had nothing but large bills from the ATM. Breakfasts were wonderful, Ginty the dog was friendly, and the room was fine (we had a twin, and it was on the first floor). We paid 35pounds each for the ensuite room (the bathroom was exceptionally large), and Rosemary even gave us that same price for the final night we stayed there two weeks later, in August, before our flight home. This was during the height of Edinburgh Festival season, when the standard price was higher, so that was a very nice thing to do. We enjoyed visiting at breakfast each morning with the other guests and met folks from the US (like us) as well as New Zealand and England. All spoke highly of Drumfin. Seeing Rosemary again at the end of our two week driving vacation was like returning home. I hope to stay with her again on a future trip to Scotland.

“never again”

Dumfins is a small home in a residential neighborhood. Unless you like dogs and very small rooms this is the place for you...if you can find it. The directions provided by the owner are almost incomprehensible. We had to stop and ask a local police officer and even he was not sure what was meant by her directions. But he at least got us in the general location.
The house is small, and the dog "GINTEA" met us at the door. The name, we are told is a combination of the owners two favorite things in life. Our room was up a very narrow set of stairs and the small room was a dormer- meaning the ceiling was slanted and we kept hiting our heads on the ceiling. (we are 5'8") The bathroom was so small that when you combed your hair in front of the mirror, you were standing in the doorway. The shower water pressure was nil. In fact, I turned the shower wand upside down and the water could only manage about 1" in heighth.
The owner stated that during the busy summer months she would not accept travel vouchers as the travel voucher companies would only pay a discounted rate. SO she simply tells unsuspecting caller she is full!
