Stayed here on a recent trip top Edinburgh over the half term holidays. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall we were very happy with the hotel. As a Residence Inn, all rooms are equipped with kitchenettes comprising a microwave, fridge, dishwasher and sink. Plates and cutlery also supplied. Shower was good. TV was on one a flexible arm mount so could face the beds or settee. The TV also has USB inputs so you can watch your own programmes. Few small niggles however, .... we were expecting a call in the room from a friend and it took a while to work out the phone didn't ring because it hadn't been plugged in??? No laundry bags provided, no 'donotdisturb' door hangars, tea/coffee supplies not topped up regularly. Nothing significant however that can't be sorted easily.
There is only a single lift so we were pleased to be on a room on the lower floors. We were located at the front of the building which faced an office block so had to keep our curtains closed for privacy. The third floor of opposing building were empty so maybe a better bet? Breakfast was ok but the space provided was woefully inadequate and although they had some 'brown paper bags' and 'disposable coffee cups' every other item was unsuited to a 'grab and go' breakfast. They really should provide some disposable plates and cutlery to compensate for the complete lack of space in the breakfast area.
If you've been to a RI before anywhere in the US you'll know that they have Manager receptions where they provide light meals on some weekday evenings. Although this is advertised on the website it did not exist here.
Location of the hotel is fantastic. It is located very close to the University campus and as a result there are lots of good value eating establishments locally. There is a Starbucks and Sainsbury's local 2 mins walk from the hotel. The walk to the Royal Mile takes around 5 minutes.
We loved Edinburgh and thought this hotel was great. Would we return? You bet, although there is no aircon in the rooms so it may be a bit too hot in the rooms come the middle of Summer.
