Had a very enjoyable stay at the Apex City Hotel for two nights in May 2012. We were only in Edinburgh for a few days, but this was the perfect home base to explore some of the major highlights including the Edinburgh Castle (15 min hike up the hill), Royal Mile, shopping on Princes Street, etc. Staff were friendly and helpful (stored our luggage when we arrived b/c our room wasn't ready). The room was modern, clean and quiet (our room didn't face Grassmarket street). Not much for old world charm - but certainly convenient and comfortable; and also an easy 15min cab ride to the airport (20GBP). Would definitely recommend the hotel and a good pair of walking shoes when visiting Edinburgh as it is a city of urban hills and massive stairs!
