“Weekend break in Edinburgh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

The hotel has just been renovated and they have done a superb job, the new bedrooms are out of this world especially the blue room. The bar area and the whole entrance has been done to a very high standard. The food is exceptional and would recommend hotel to stay in when visiting Edinburgh. The staff and owner are very friendly and are extremely helpful. The bus service is second to none, bus stop right outside the hotel. If you fancy walking to city centre it will take about 15 mins. All in all it's a great place to stay.

“Small room but big welcome from staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Lovely hotel. Excellent location. Can either walk or bus hop from right outside into the centre. Staff incredibly friendly and helpful. Food very nice. Stayed in newer building across the road, which I feel is prob not the best choice. Would like to try the more traditional hotel next time. Our room was small and dark (basement floor). The bathroom was probably the nicest part, very luxurious and certainly got me hooked on Moulton Brown!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the first floor and above.

Hi there

Thanks for taking the time to post your review. I believe you stayed in the Dunstane City Hotel which is our sister hotel, a more modern boutique feel in general. Next time you visit Edinburgh you should try the Dunstane House Hotel and compare the two experiences!

Thanks again

“Lovely Hotel with Lovely Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My husband and I stayed at the Dunstane House Hotel for three nights in October 2011. We had taken the train from London and after a not-so-great experience at our hotel there, this was definitely a lovely change.

The hotel was very easy to find as it is along the main road when you exit the train station. We chose to walk to the hotel from the train station (maybe a 10-15 minute walk), but if you have mobility issues you may wish to take a taxi or the bus instead. The hotel is about a 30 minute walk from the main centre of Edinburgh, but is an easy walk or an even easier bus ride as the stop is literally outside the door of the hotel. We found getting around very easy.

Our room was a fairly normal-sized standard room, even by most North American standards, and the bathroom was perfectly spotless. The shower stall was a tiny bit cramped, but the toiletries they offer were lovely, and the water pressure is very good. The rooms were tastefully decorated, and the style suits the feel of the house that this hotel once was.

We ate 2 of our dinners at The Stane Bar (serves the same menu as The Skerries, but in a more casual environment), and all of our breakfasts at the hotel (we had the room plus breakfast package), and the food was also very good. The breakfast room is lovely and never full or crowded. The tables are all spaced a good distance apart and all 3 mornings that we ate there we did not have to wait even a moment for a seat. There are cloth napkins and individual jars of jams and marmalade, and you get your very own silver pot of coffee (or hot water if you choose to have tea) so you can have several cups if you wish, and the coffee was absolutely wonderful. There is a fireplace and the ceilings are very high making the room feel very spacious, but still cozy at the same time.

There is a very good selection of breakfast and brunch items from the menu, as well as cereals, fruit, baked goods, juices, etc. from the buffet table as well. The first morning I tried the scrambled eggs with orkney smoked salmon and it was very nice.

The staff at the Dunstane House Hotel is very friendly and helpful. We did a scotch tasting one night and the bartender at The Stane bar made recommendations and helped us with our selections.

Overall our experience in Edinburgh was excellent; Edinburgh is a beautiful city and we enjoyed ourselves very much, and had a very relaxing and pleasant stay at the Dunstane House Hotel. I would highly recommend this location for anyone travelling to Edinburgh. Although it is a fair ways outside of the city proper, the fact that the bus is so readily available and the walk to town is so pleasant, this minor detail does not reflect negatively on this property in any way.

This is the second time I have stayed at Dunstane and I will keep returning! Level of staff interaction, knowledge and efficiency is absolutely spot on! I also highly recommend The Skerries for dining.
This team has it hands above! All around just superior.

“Comfortable, relaxed stay in lovely room with good service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

Stayed for one night as we were looking for somewhere near Murrayfield Stadium. Nice surprise on arrival, as we had been upgraded to a four poster room. Not the biggest room, and the bathroom was very small, however, there was a table and a couple of comfortable chairs. The bed was really comfortable, we both had a very good sleep, followed by a fantastic breakfast. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.
