“This lovely little B&B is definitely worth a visit for the amazing breakfasts if not the gorgeous surrounding countryside...”

I stayed here for the Edinburgh Marathon last month and this lovely little B&B is definitely worth a visit for the amazing breakfasts if not the gorgeous surrounding countryside... Run by Louise, who is an incredible hostess who looks after you above and beyond from arrival to departure.

The rooms are perfect to unwind and relax in with lovely views out to the garden and countryside.

Breakfast is definatley not to be missed and is almost worth the commute (from London) but consists of pretty much what you would like from fresh, local, organic eggs, bacon, sausages all cooked perfectly on an Aga or homemade jams and marmalades to fresh local fruit salad all with coffee, tea and fresh juices. I can recommend it all, but was especially fond of Louise's husband, Michael's homemade raspberry jam.

Right by the Airport (but not under the noisy flightpath) and a short distance from Dalmeny Train Station, Craigbrae Farmhouse is ideal for getting in and out of Edinburgh city centre at almost anytime of day with trains starting early and finishing late. If however, you miss the last train (like I did after celebrating the marathon was all over) you can grab a taxi for around £12 from the city centre.

I strongly recommend this as a inner-city hotel alternative. Really felt like I was on holiday and to have a cosy sitting room with lovely log fire to relax on the couch and watch a movie is always nice.

Thanks to Louise & Michael and I will definitely be coming back!

Welcoming, interesting hosts, lovely breakfasts. Clean, comfortable rooms with lots of character. If visiting Edinburgh, park at Dalmeny station for free and go in by train, especially if it's Festival time.

“Wonderful B&B in Edinburgh countryside”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 June 2009

We stayed at Craigbrae Farmhouse during our trip around Scotland last week. We found out about Craigbrae through Alastair Sawday's Special Places and decided to give it a try despite not finding any reviews on it. And, what a gem!

It's an old farmhouse (not working farmhouse anymore) just about 15-20 minutes drive outside of Edinburgh. We stayed here because all of the B&Bs in Edinburgh city centre were booked up because of the marathon and rugby, but we were so happy to have found this place. It's a beautiful, charming farmhouse and Louise, the owner, was absolutely lovely. So helpful, interesting and delightful to talk to. She really did make us feel welcome and at home.

We all stayed in the rooms on the first floor. My husband and I stayed in the double room with ensuite bath/shower. Our friends stayed in the double room with a separate water closet and separate shower room. Both were beautifully decorated, cozy and quiet rooms with views to the garden. The beds and pillows were incredibly comfy - goose down pillows and down duvet cover. Heaven!

The rooms were so lovely and cozy you just wanted to stay there all day. The double room with separate bathroom had more open views to the garden and fields beyond, while ours had more limited views of just the trees in the garden, but both very excellent rooms.

Breakfast was one of our top 3 favourite of all the B&Bs we stayed at in Scotland last week (we stayed at 7 different B&Bs - some were excellent) - and actually the #1 best breakfast for 2 of the 4 of us. Absolutely delicious!

A very special B&B indeed and just outside of Edinburgh in the countryside. Great if you want peace, quiet and somewhere special to stay but want easy access to the city centre. Highly recommended.
