I arrived at the this hotel to be told that they had plumbing problems with my room and that they had sent me an email that morning to inform me. They had booked me into another hotel "10 minutes out of Edinburgh by bus" at a reduced price (part of the same group). However I did not wish to be 10 minutes out of the centre on hogmanay. I ended up finding my own hotel within walking distance.
The York House Hotel has failed to respond to my email complaint highlighting that their own webpage boasts within the first line that they are “located in the heart of the city” and that I do not consider the alternative hotel to be equivalent, or the lack of notice to be reasonable. I am still awaiting an apology from the hotel manager for the inconvenience caused to me and my parter and the addition expense to us.
I cannot recommend this hotel as I believe the level of customer service provided to me to be unacceptable. NOTE: If I had cancelled I would have had to pay to compensate their inconvenience.
p.s. I was not able to leave a review with Booking.com as the Hotel cancelled.

Location of this hotel is perfect for wanting to explore the city.

We arrived early and wanted to leave our bags. We were met with a man who didn't speak much English but we managed to leave our bags in our room.

George the owner was lovely and very friendly.

Breakfast was good, seconds were always offered with the cooked breakfast. Good selection of cereals, fruits, yogurts and juices.

The hotel could probably do with a bit of a spruce up, and more of a b&b than a hotel.

Arrived early hoping to leave bags as we have done often on various occasions at different hotels. Hotel door was open therefore we entered having to hang about to be greeted by a very uncivilized "not open til 2" he pointed at door and walked away leaving the 5 of us standing, My mother is in her mid 80's and all we wanted was to check bags in and then go out. We had to telephone the number on the front door, This was the hotel across the road. The receptionist was very very nice and we left our baggage there. We could not complain about the beds the bedding was spotless, however the net curtains, skirting and the rest of the room left a lot to be desired. The Gentleman who checked us un after the show we had been to see was very very nice and helpful..We did feel however that the room was overpriced for the facilities as the breakfast was not included in the price.

Only booked this hotel as it was a good location to Edinburgh Playhouse and when I searched on-line it was the only hotel in the area of the Playhouse available!
Upon arriving at this hotel (2 hours prior to book in time - to leave our luggage as we had a matinee show) there was no-one in reception & we waited around but no-one was available however I went looking & saw a gentleman who I explained to that we were early but could we possibly leave our luggage. He did not speak much english & was very arrogant!
This put a bad start to a much looked forward to night away!
When we arrived later at the hotel we were greeted by a different gentlemen who I cannot complain about as he was friendly.
However with regards to the bedrooms I can only say 'at least the bed was clean'. The hotel needed a good scrub, dusty/dirty skirting boards, bedroom had no light shade (just a bulb!), TV didn't work great, a lot of banging of doors. Hotel very drab & shabby. I will certainly not be staying here again or recommend to anyone.
Not worth the money!
