The wedding was 22/04/11 and we booked out a large number of rooms for 2 nights..
Everything we requested was met! The staff were amazing with nothing too much trouble.
Food and service were spot on and they pretty much left us to it which is how we wanted it..
Only down side was the size of the bridal suite.. Slightly small but still a good place..

You might find plusher hotels with more facilities but what you won't beat is the the charm. warm welcome and traditional values of The Gables. That's why I have put it as excellent.

We were here for a family wedding and for the two night stay nothing was too much trouble. From the friendly staff, to the cosy bar, the excellent scottish breakfast through to the actual wedding reception itself - all were first class.

Situated close to Anvil Hall were the wedding ceremony was held then the hotel is easy to find off of the motorway and at the other end of the village from the outlet shops (worth a visit). Also worth visiting is the original Blacksmiths shop and associated tourist attraction.

My husband and I went for a 2 night break on a special deal, what a bargain.
Staff are the best I've known, from the begining Jane at reception made us wecome, and laugh, nothing was too much trouble.
Then James was so attentive and lovely he made you feel you were the most important guests in the hotel.
All the staff were the same from the cleaners to the handyman everybody was happy and helpfull.
The hotel itself is full of character and spotless the bed was comfy slept like a log both nights, and the breakfast was amazing, choice of full or continental, cereals, fruit, porridge, juices, toast, muffins and pastries, I could go on and on.
The waitress was great very efficent, sorry I can't remember your name.
I was ill the first night, existing complaint, and next day everybody was asking how I was and were genuinely concerned,
would definately stay again even at full price worth every penny.
It's ideal for Hadrians wall, Gretna shopping centre Carlisle and of course Gretna itself.
Would be the ideal wedding venue, if we ever get married again it would definately be here.

my wife and i have just returned from our first stay at the gables, and i must say we were both very impressed from the moment we arrived we were to feel most welcome. the very helpful and polite explained everything to us in a non parrot fashion which i found very refreshing. we had a very nice room ( no 32 ) which was towards the rear of the hotel and was very peaceful not to mention spotlessly clean , cosy and very well appointed.we then had a very nice meal and a drink in the lounge bar which was reasonably priced. a good nights in a very comfy bed was followed by the most beautiful cooked breakfast in the very spacious dining room all in all a very enjoyable stay in a first hotel . full marks team gables
