When we first walked into the Inn it was not what I expected. For some reason I had "carvery" in my head. The Riverside is basically an old style pub trying to cover all the bases (dining area, function room, B&B....).
Overall the Riverside looks like it has not been decorated since the early 1980's -- carpet, wall coverings, lighting, chairs, tables all add to this feeling. For me this is a negative. It really needs a face lift.
Having said that I honestly can say the who place is very clean -- The dining area had very clean linen table covers, the glasses and cutlery were clean; the floors and walls very clean; as was the bar area. All big pluses in my book.
The food menu was simple with a small selection of starters and mains and the prices very reasonable. Nothing surprising on the menu -- a few beef, chicken, veg, fish option. Each of us had something different -- chicken curry, pork medallions, Chicken Rob Roy and we all thought the food was excellent. Taste was great and the portions generous. The veg was clearly fresh (not frozen) and cooked to perfection.
The staff were cheery and helpful.
There is an outside area with tables beside the river so an evening meal or drink would be lovely.
Putting aside the décor, I enjoyed the experience -- simple but tasty food in a nice friendly environment.
