“weird but wonderful”

Stayed here over easter weekend. It was surprising how big the room was we got, 3 double beds in it! made the atmosphere slightly unwelcoming, but i think the owners were trying to put us in the best room in the house which was very nice of them.

The room which we had was very dated, not been decorated in about 30 years, but this adds character.

There is a severe lack of plug sockets in this place, however this seems to be the "norm" wherever i travel!! In this particular guest house, there are no plug sockets anywhere near a mirror. Being a lady, this was quite annoying as i couldnt do my hair in the morning in front of a mirror!! Perhaps this is something the owners could remedy as i had to take the one out the bathroom off the wall, then hang it back on the wall. Not something you want to do in another persons home.

The breakfast was nice, great selection of fresh fruit, cereal, then cooked breakfast.

On our departure, the gentleman owner talked to us for about 30mins. Very friendly.

This was a good guest house for what we needed it for, was clean tidy, just very dated. Couldnt sleep during the night as next door to a royal mail depot. It was so noisy. Some slight stains on the carpets too. Leaflets/booklets very dated (apart from in the dining room). Two travel magazines in the room were dated 1997. This was slightly odd.

If you want luxury i.e. toilettries in the bathroom, fluffy towels and nice surroundings, do not go here. If you want digs for the night, reasonable price with hosts who i honestly believe would do anything to help you, then book. This Guest House is not rated, but if it was it would probably be a 2* due to lack of provisions and interior.

We stayed in the borders for a historic scotland weekend. Visited all the abbeys, it was fab.

The Guest House is in a very central location, however not much to do in Galashiels itself. Only place we could find to eat was a wotherspoons, but quite a nice wotherspoons it was! Caught the sun in the beer garden late afternoon.

“friendly staff and central in the borders”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 April 2011

my girlfriend and I stayed here on Easter weekend 2011 for 1 night
Very easy to find, right in the heart of Gallashiels.Handy if you like to go out at night into town. There is ample on street parking opposite the b&b and there are a few spaces directly outside owned by the b&b.
The owners were very nice and polite and the rooms were very spacious,we had a double room and it had 3 beds in it!! the decor is a bit 80"s , but at the same time clean.the bathroom was also tidy and clean
Breakfast in the morning was really nice,we had a full Scottish breaky with toast and couldnt have asked for more
The one thing I would say about this b&b is at night it can be a tad noisy. As you are in the town center you can hear the people coming out the pubs and clubs at all hours and there is a royal mail post office depot over the backdoor,so depending on what side of the bnb you are on,you will be able to hear it all night,i think the nightshift starts at 10pm!!!
all in all we had a good stay and I couldnt complain, the people were very nice, a good place to stop if you are visiting the borders

Room Tip: double room would sleep 5
