You know some places are so posh you cannot relax for fear of creasing the bedlinen? Well that is not the case with the Harbour view. It's homely and comfy, a totally unpretentious, old-fashioned guest house. If you'd rather save money than enjoy stylish and contemporary fixtures and fittings, this is the place for you. A charming Georgian house with an elegant spiral staircase containing Dilys, the down-to-earth landlady with no airs or graces, the large windows give a fabulous view of the CalMac ferry which is just 200 yards away, and the railway station platforms, so it's perfect for lovers of transport.
Our strange room was 6ft 6 wide and 16ft long, and contained a double and a single bed. I've never before been able to brush my teeth while sitting up in bed, so that was novel. The decor, fixtures, fittings and ornaments date from the 1930s through to the 1970s. I rather liked it!
Outside our room was the guest lounge, which had many chairs, armchairs and a sofa, a small library, tv and dvd player. Next to that a bathroom with 1970s shower cubicle, basin and loo.
Superb breakfast that will last you all day. Excellent value for money at £21 pppn.
I really liked this place and would definitely go back. It made a welcome change from all the poncy, over-pretentious places we stayed elsewhere.
