“Nice rooms but very cluttered.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

A reasonable guest house which was clean and looked after but far too many cushions and nik naks - it was extremely cluttered. The bed was comfortable and the location was good with nice views across the bay from the lounge and breakfast room. Our bedroom looked out over a bowling green. The breakfast was basic but lacked the black pudding which would have added a touch of luxury. They advertise parking for six cars but these are end on end so some car shuffling is required if you are first in and want to be first out. The hosts weren't overly welcoming but were polite They weren't available when I went to ask for an extra lamp for our room.

“Old time guest house.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

Clean (ish) and comfortable, with reasonable view over Oban Bay, its up a hill, after all. The rooms are quite small and the en-suites are even smaller, but do the job. Breakfast is served between 8am and 8.30am, even at weekends, definitely too early, and mine host nearly had apoplexy when my wife asked for peppermint tea, come on, this is 2010, but not at the Glenbervie apparently, also its cooked breakfast, or not, no choice, not even porridge, essential in Scotland in July and August, and we had to ask for more toast, as well.
Summing up, Ok, but definitely overpriced for what you get.

“what a gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 June 2010

stayed here for one night, and from the minute i entered the building it was fantastic.
the staff were really attentive.
my room was comfortable with a view of the bay (good as i like my ferries)
and had freeview tv.
it is in a very quiet area of the town.
the only downside for me was the breakfast, as i asked for porridge and they dont do it and that you werent really given a choice, it was bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, hash brown and a tomato that you were given, fair enough it was excellent, but i would like a proper fry up with a fried egg and black pudding.

apart from this downside it was 10/10

“Small, individual touches made it special”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 March 2010

We had a lovely time here. Admittedly, we didn't have a sea view in the sense that we were in the attic room and would have had to stick our heads out of the skylights!

It was an old-fashioned guest house but very friendly - the place is full of frog ornament which made me laugh. It's chintzy and cluttered but home-like.

The small touches are what made it special - there was a soft toy dog on the bed, which made me smile, there was a bowl of sweets on the side in the room and very nice tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. You got the impression the owners/managers really cared and made the effort, which was important. The breakfast was nice too.

It wasn't cheap, but not extortionate. Also quite handy for the town but not right in the centre. Great for a relaxing break.

“Will return very soon, staff could not have been more pleasant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2009

Spent a week-end with friends and we all had a ball. The rooms were spacious, modern and very clean. Conveniently situated with great views. Breakfast was great, fresh fruits and freshly cooked breakfast. Staff could not do enough to help from the time we arrived until we left.
