“Great location and pretty B&B”

We booked the double but somehow got the family room which was lucky. Huge room with huge bathroom which was really nice and comfortable. We had garden views, but spent most of our time down by the loch 5 minutes away taking photos of the amazing view. The breakfast was really nice and the host was really lovely and helpful. Everything was prepared, including all of the menus of the local restaurants. Wanted to stay longer

“Another excellent experience at Tigh Bahn.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

This is our third time staying at the lovely and quaint Tigh Bahn, and a trip to Scotland now would not seem right without calling in to sample the genuine simple superb hospitality of owners Andy and Hynal.
They open their home to people from around the world and a read of the visitors book is testament itself to the quality of service they give to their guests.
I read complaints about cooking smells in bedrooms rising from the kitchen below, and my wife and I have been in that very bedroom each time we have stayed and can say that we have not noticed it. We have also used the lounge and these complainants are right that it is the owners own lounge. Such is the warmth of the owners that far from locking their guests away in their rooms in the evenings they open up the house so the experiences can be shared.
Obviously there are times when it is not convenient for guests to share the family lounge, but in reality we are paying for bed and breakfast, and the rooms are all well furnished with TV and DVD and books to read, which is a lot more than is provided in other similar establishments.
If you really pass muster Andy may even share a whisky with you.
So, Andy and Hynal your record speaks for itself, and there is no way we could pass by without making sure we linger a day or two to be pampered at the lovely Tigh Bahn.

“Lovely Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2011

We stayed here for one night on our way to Skye. We had 2 rooms, as my husband and I were travelling with my mum.

Both rooms were lovely and had a very homely feeling to them. Spotlessing clean, very comfortable beds and well equipped rooms.

Breakfast was excellent and we really enjoyed watching the birds in the beautiful garden.

The owners were lovely, really friendly and made you feel very welcome.

We stayed in the room above the kitchen as well and did not experience the same issues that the other review on here stated.

Also my mum had the twin room and loved it, she found it very quaint and said she has the best night sleep in years!

We will definately be back.

The hollytree restaurant is very nice and only 5 minutes away.

“Wasn't told about the resident's lounge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

Stayed here for just one night as we were exploring the area. This B & B is in a very quiet location, there aren't a great many places to choose from in Appin, but it's a beautiful part of the country. I was really disappointed to find out later on Trip Advisor that there was a resident's lounge as we weren't told about it during our stay - we went for a walk and went out to eat nearby but were then obliged to sit in our room which made me feel a bit claustrophobic. Breakfast was OK, we shared the table with another guest who was very nice and we're sociable people but I prefer to have a table to myself at breakfast, wouldn't have minded so much for dinner.

We are very sorry you missed out on using the guest lounge as said before some of our guest make use of it and some do not .In August we did some alterations and put in a window seat for our guests to enjoy the view down to the bay hope it gets more use in future.
As for sharing the table at breakfast this is something we would not change, we and our guest have had many a good times getting to know one another and sharing our holiday experiences, many a good friend ship has been started round this table, again most of our guest benefit from this set up. If you are thinking of coming to stay and are unsure about sharing your breakfast table with other very interesting guests, then please give it a try you may enjoy.
Many thanks for your comments,

“Only Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

Maybe we were unlucky when we stayed, but having stayed in many B & Bs in Scotland we can only rate this as average. We stayed in a double room above the owner's kitchen which meant that the cooking smells filled the room in the evenings. It was a good thing that there is a lovely 5 minute walk to the sea shore.
Although they offer a guest's lounge, it is actually the owner's own lounge and as they had friends staying with them we felt unwelcome to 'join' them as they suggested.
Finally, the room itself was small but clean, with an equally small but clean en-suite.
Overall, the B & B is ok, but It does not compare with the great number of genuinely excellent Scottish B & Bs.

We were very sorry that you were disappointed with your stay here at Tigh Bhan, although you compare us with other B&Bs in Scotland, the only other one reviewed was a five star establishment with tariffs nearly twice as ours. It is always best to compare like for like although many of our guest rate us as five star we don’t charge five star prices and have to work in the constraint of this being an old cottage with dimensions to suite but offer where possible a five star service.
The cooking smells again this is the first time mentioned but we have done a few tests and the only time food smells have made their way upstairs is when the kitchen door is open and the bedroom door upstairs is open again we are working in the constraints of a cottage, home baking and this time of year my jam making smells will also waft through the house.
The guest lounge is very hit and miss very rarely used by guests as often they retire to their rooms after their evening meal but it is available should they wish to use it, many B&Bs of our size do not offer this facility.
The size of room reflects the size of the cottage, it has been upgraded with a king size bed and with the en-suite, we think it is good value for money at £57 per night for the room and so do most of our guest with a large percentage of repeat business and on many occasions over payment.
Thank you for your comments.
