This is a really lovely conversion from an old stone mill to modern house in a beautiful location - very quiet and really dark at night so that you can see the stars. Lovely welcome from Aiden and Theresa with tea on arrival and a great breakfast.

We stayed at the River Mill Bed and Breakfast for two glorious nights in September 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This B&B has all the bells and whistles of a 5-star establishment and much, much more.
It has only recently been renovated (from the ground up!) and we enjoyed all the mod-cons new accommodation provides including luxurious ensuite bathrooms with divine power showers. It has also been built with the environment and conservation in mind without compromising on comfort or luxury - perfect.
Theresa and Aidan our hosts have exquisite taste and the accommodation is very stylish. All rooms are beautifully appointed, have high ceilings and intimate views of the surrounding woodlands. The accommodation has been designed to perfection and was extremely suitable for my mother who is disabled.
The breakfast is second to none. Theresa and Aidan excel at a full cooked Irish breakfast, which we would highly recommend. We loved it so much that we are tracking down a recipe for soda bread and where to buy Irish black and white pudding in Australia just to try to 're-live' the culinary experience.
A real treat during our stay was walking on the country lanes that surround the accommodation. Another treat was eating fresh strawberries from their vegetable garden located outside the kitchen, which also provides a lot of the produce served to guests (including the best rhubarb and plum compote I have ever tasted).
We loved that the River Mill is only a short drive from the chaos and noise of Downpatrick yet is perfectly positioned in a natural setting that has a really tranquil and relaxed feel about it. It is also very close to lots of great things to see and do including Ardglass and its magical coastline, St Patrick's grave and the Mourne mountains, all of which we squeezed comfortably into two and a half days.
We drove back to River Mill at sunset one evening and stopped to watch the sun set over the surrounding rural area – it was breathtaking and the stuff that memories are made of!
If you want a beautiful B&B experience with a breakfast that surpasses all expectations then this is a perfect choice. We would also highly recommend this accommodation for less mobile guests.
Thanks to Theresa and Aidan for creating wonderful memories for us - you won't be forgotten.

My wife and I, along with another couple, just completed a trip to Ireland. Of the six Band Bs that we stayed in, this was the best. It is an old mill, part built in 1712, I think, and part in 1847. The place was recently gutted and completely redone. Everything inside is very modern and sleek. Aiden and Theresa were great hosts and fun to talk to. It is a couple of miles from "downtown" Ardglass but we had a car so that was no problem.
It was fun to look out the windows and see the garden, and fields with sheep beyond that. It was very quiet. Breakfast is on a mezzanine and the view out is pretty. It is very clear that this is Aiden and Theresa's home. They spent a great deal of time and planning in redoing the house. (Redoing is an understatement. They gutted everything but the outside walls). This is their house, and it shows.
We stayed at the River Mill as we were attending a Wedding locally. We recived a very warm welcome fron Aiden and Theresa, as did our daughters who arrived a few days after us. Nothing was too much trouble . We were treated to magnificant breakfasts every day, even my daughter who is vegetarian was catered for excellently, there were also numerous choices of bread to have with breakfast, my husband sampled them all! Our rooms were spotless with lovely fluffy towels and a great choice of drinks in the room itself. I'm a wheelchair user and always have reservations when staying away from home, about the facilites that are on offer. I had no need to worry, the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are all accessible, and the shower seat and toilet seat raiser, allowed me to be independant, just as I am at home. We all enjoyed the tranquility of the location and would not hesitate to recommend or return to the Rivermill. Aiden and Theresa were fantastic hosts and we hope the Rivermill doesn't become too busy as we hope to return in the future!!!!
Not the easiest place to find using Sat Nav, but well worth the find. Great hosts and terrific breakfast. Lovely conversion by the owners of what was once a wreck - they have done a great job and produced an extremely smart and comfortable home and B&B. Hot water is heated by ground heat so shower is an acquired skill! Not too many quality eateries locally but Aldo's in Ardglass have good food and it is well patronised by locals, which is always a good sign.
