“Top City Centre Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I stayed here with my girlfriend on the Saturday 11th Feb for Valentines. The staff were very pleasent and helpful. The rooms were great, spacious and comfortable. I had requested before our arrival for a quiet room as I didnt want to be beside the main street. We were given room 401 at the back of the hotel which was perfect.
The hotels decor is very nice and goth like. The bar is great and I will definitley be back to do some of the amazing cocktails. Buy one get one free on saurdays till 7pm.

I had booked the shopping package so was given a £50 voucher to use in Victoria Square as it was a good deal all round with breakfast included.

The only downside was the breakfast. There is a buffet choice of juice, cereals and muffins. The hot food is requested from the menu. We both got the fry which was disappointing for the cost. No fried bread at all, one sausage, one slice of bacon and an egg with some black pudding for £13. As ours was included it was fine and we just ordered more toast. However I would have been disappointed if I had to pay that amount for such an average breakfast.

We went elsewhere for our evening meal so cant comment on the other menus. Overall it was a very nice stay, right in the city centre and handy to all the main bars. If they had had a better breakfast then it would be 5 stars.

Room Tip: Room 401 was quiet

“Some issues need tweaking for this place to be fantastic--”

The Mal Maison Belfast was chosen for our city break as we got a great offer for 2 nights plus breakfast-- this was cheaper than the Hilton. That said, we were disappointed as their were some things in room that were just not quite right.

If you are a light sleeper, or don't want to hear your neighbours, bring earplugs. Though we asked for a quieter room, the noise from the street was very loud (as would be expected in the city), but the walls are very thin. One can hear everything from upstairs and next door (and I mean EVERYTHING).
Also,we had problems with the shower (not draining properly) and the soap holder was falling off the wall which was annoying. Water temperature in the shower was inconsistent and was either scalding or cold. Also cleanliness was not quite up to standard with lots of dust in bathroom... and the curtains in the bedroom had many cigarette burns on them-- a real shame.

The good? Breakfast in their beautifully light breakfast room, and those bath products are nice (bigger sizes than normal). Staff friendly and very helpful. Would try somewhere else next time we are in Belfast, though!
We did report all this to front desk so hopefully it will be fixed when you arrive???

“Mixed experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The Malmaison tries hard to to be distinctive and unusual but whether or not its gloomy ambience and the mock-gothic bedroom furnishings appeal will depend on your taste. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the beds were comfortable; the standard of breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. Our room was above the bar and the soundproofing was non-existent which rendered it uninhabitable. In fairness the staff very promptly facilitated our relocation to a quite room- but this is a potential nightmare for the unwary. Finally, the price reflects the Malmaison's estimation of itself as an upmarket boutique hotel rather than the rather
less impressive reality.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is not directly over the bar

“Comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

My husband and I had an overnite stay as we were attending a concert at the Waterfront Hall. My son had bought this as a Christmas present, this was as a package, eat, drink and stay. The hotel was comfortable and the staff were very friendly. We had a meal in the restaurant but were very dissappointed as there wasn't much choice, we had a choice of 3 starters and 3 mains, wether this was a package or not a choice of 3 does not rate highly in by book. We left the restaurant dissappointed but I have to say overall expierence was good.

“Nice weekend break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Just back from a 2night stay with my girlfriend. Have stayed before and this visit was just as good. Great location close to shopping and bars.

Had dinner in the hotel both nights. The waitress (elaine i think?... from limavady) was top notch. Very approachable and did everything with a smile, made time to speak to us even though she was mostly multtasking and never had to ask twice, (the restaurant manager might take a few tips from her as he did ask if we needed anything else and disappeared seemingly forgetting all about it. From what we could see he seemed to ask elaine to do most things anyway... just a small point) . Highly recommend the cocktails in the bar, we had quite a few! Found the hotels bouncer to be approachable and pleasant and helped out with parking times and places to go.

All in all, would recommend and will most likely be back for another visit.
