“Very good location and cheap. Otherwise avoid.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Hello,

Positives:
o CitiLodge is close to very Queen's University, Botanic Avenue, the cinema, fast food etc.
o It is cheap, typically 30 pounds for a single room with shared bathroom.
o The breakfast is good for the price.
o I have never had a problem with the manager or staff.

Negatives:
o It is dirty. Last time I stayed for a week and neither my sheets or towel were changed.
o Normally there is some problem with the keys etc.
o I don't feel that secure there (the front door almost always left open) although have never had anything stolen to be fair and I must have used CitiLodge (as it is now called) maybe on 4 separate occasions.
o For example last time the TV was semi-burned out in the middle and my room overlooked scaffolding. At least it was on the back side of the building so there was little noise from the Thursday-Saturday night drunks.

Overall I would use CitiLodge again (if I am on my own, not with my wife due to the cleanliness aspect that she would not tolerate) just because of the location and the fact that it is cheap. But the Ritz it is not...

Peace,

Jonathan

“Warning - Your rooms aren't secured.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2011

Second time I stayed here, so more fool me, unfortunately the second time I left it last minute to book and this was the only place available - and i'm not surprised. I very rarely be bothered to give somewhere a bad review, unless it really deserves it - and this place does. The first thing I want to say, is probably the biggest point -

The key which you are give? Well that key will let you into any other hotel room. By accident I tried my key in my friends door, as we got mixed up, and it let me in. After realizing this, we tried it on a few other peoples doors we had met. Any key we tried, let us into any room. The owners clearly just went for the cheapest key/lock solution available.

Beside that minor point, the ensuite shower I paid for? Well that was literally just a shower, stuck into the corner of the room. Not serperated from the room at all. Just in the corner. With a sink as well. And the toilet was half way down the corridor!

It is also really dirty, I don't mind a bit of dirt, but when I pulled back the sheets - I found ALOT of long hairs under the sheets, I was nearly sick.

Staff are generally passable, but after we had paid, we were hardly made to feel welcome.

Its just terrible, honestly, please dont stay there.

“Last minute booking in Belfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

Following write off of my car in Eire due to engine flooding incident had to make very speedy booking and due to amount of luggage was essential to be as close to Belfast city centre and bus terminal as possible. Due to doubts on my arrival by receptionist as to viability of wifi access in single with bathroom I had booked, was given double without bathroom when proper gesture in retrospect would have been to reduce price to cost of single without bathroom as I had booked on basis of wifi access and own bathroom. Good points were that room was clean, bed comfortable, had a decent sized sink/lighting & lcd tv and despite rooms overlooking street, was quiet - likewise , if you want to be or must be close to centre, I am aware the hotel rates compare reasonably favourably with the usual upmarket pricey chains and from the hotel location, everything is indeed within walking distance.

Breakfast was so so and under normal circumstances , wouldn't pay £40 a night for shared bathroom and toilet (though there are enough of these on landing such that access was not a problem even if was irritating). Hotel is ok and staff ok - what you are paying for here in my opinion is the central location above all else. I will therefore neither recommend nor not recommend hotel (which would be unfair) below - I think it depends on your circumstances and what's most important to you.

Room Tip: If in doubt, clarify everything on arrival - receptionist is not helpful or unfriendly.

“DO NOT BOOK!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2011

As already said by other guests: extremely dirty and moreover, a very unsafe place cause of the people running this place.
I booked for two nights and at the day of arrival they called me that I couldn't stay here, despite a booking confirmation. These guys definately made an overbooking and were aware I had to leave due to their own (financial) selfishness. The owner didn't paid the extra costs I had to make to stay in another hotel. A cab driver later told me this place has a reputation of prostitution and leaving guests.

So, be aware, start google and book another place!
