Tara Lodge is a great place to stay. It’s in the Botanic area of Belfast and it’s about a 10 minute walk is the botanic garden and Ulster Museum which recently won an award and is worth seeing. All around are good cafes and restaurants.
When we arrived the guy on reception couldn’t have been more helpful and gave us some good ideas of where to go and what to see. Once we got over the fact that our room was next to the hotel carpark, and found out how to work the tv remote, we realised it was a nice room. There was hardly any coming and going in the carpark and hence the room was actually very quiet. The shower was good. Breakfast was excellent, there are several choices including smoked salmon and scrambled egg and pancakes and syrup. The breakfast room was buzzing with lively conversation and the thing we noticed was that everyone looked happy. The staff were attentive, quickly filled up the jugs of orange juice when they got low etc and it was even noticed that the little milk jug on our table was empty and whisked away and brought back full, without us having to ask.
One of the Open Top bus tour companies has feeder minibuses which pick up people from Tara Lodge to where the tours start from. We really enjoyed it. Botanic also has it’s own railway station where we caught a train out to Cultra. From there it’s a short walk to Ulster Folk Park, a brilliant place where it’s easy to while away a day.
