“Put a smile on our faces”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

As the title suggests we were expecting good things from The Tara Lodge after all the fantastic reviews. We can definitely say that it more than met our expectations.

After leaving beautiful weather behind in England we were disappointed to arrive in Belfast to torrential rain. However we were able to park right outside and the the warm and friendly welcome we received set the tone for a fantastic stay.

First, the room was excellent. It was smart, clean and well kept. The bed was huge and was one of the comfiest we have ever slept in. The bathroom was also good, with a powerful shower and a bath which was great, especially with the complimentary bath salts. The toiletries were very good and a nice touch. We also had a flat screen TV and DVD player.

Second, the breakfast was fantastic. The choice was very good, generous portions and all cooked fresh to order. During our stay we tried the Ulster fry and the pancakes. The porridge, as mentioned previously is really good, especially with a mini jug of Bushmills. The staff at breakfast could not do enough for you and were always on hand to top up your drinks or offer you more food.

Third - the location is really good. Set in South Belfast it is about 10 to 15 minute walk into the city center. However there is a wide variety of things to do around the Lodge as well as many places to eat and drink if you do not fancy the walk into the City. We went to Beatrice Kennedy's around the corner and it was really nice.

Finally, the staff at Tara Lodge are amazing. They are really friendly, from reception, to night porters and breakfast room. We really can't fault them and they go out of their way to make your stay as relaxing as possible. One example is on our day of departure, when finding out we were heading up to Giants Causeway, the girl on reception printed out different maps for us, scenic or fast, without us even asking. That's service.

In conclusion, we had a really nice time in Belfast and at the Tara Lodge. All the staff are great and we were able to have a very relaxing time. To sum up - I found myself walking down the stairs one day and realized that I had a big smile on my face - that really says it all. In fact we've booked to stay again in December and can't wait to go back.

Thank you Tara Lodge.

Room Tip: - Rooms at the front could be noisier in summer with windows open. - Has a DVD player in room if yo...

The staff are friendly, efficient and helpful. There is an amazing variety of food avaialble for breakfast. Premises are well maintained and very clean and Tara Lodge is a short walk from the mueseum, botanical gardens and the centre of Belfast.

“The place to stay in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Booked the hotel based on the excellent reviews and wasn't disappointed.
It is a little way out from the centre (about 15mins walk), but the friendliness of the staff, the large, well equipped rooms (DVD player, iron and tea/coffee making facilities) and excellent breakfasts make this a great place to stay.

Hotel located in the student quarter, Ideally situated for eating out in the evenings.

Although only staying for 2 nights, when I told the staff there was a problem with my window not shutting properly they offered to move me for the second night.

Would suggest room at the rear of the hotel, particularly if staying at the weekend.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back would be quieter.

“great location and yummy breakfast”

we stayed at Tara Lodge in Belfast for 3 days...enjoyed the breakfasts, the comfy room and the location. there is a small carpark..looks like about 7 car spaces and it's very tight. the street the hotel is on looks rather dicey on first glance but actually is fine. Nearby restaurants for dinner are handy. The commuter train is close by and it is a fine walk into downtown or to the college area. Our only issue....the rooms in the back face onto a fairly busy street.
very helpful staff as well

“Loved it, so I did!”

Fantastic stay- very clean and comfortable- think an upmarket travelodge but with more personality! Flat screen wall-mounted LCD TV in the room, PC with internet for guest use in the lobby and a bath (all other B&Bs during a 2-week tour of Ireland only had showers) were some of my highlights. The location is fantastic, a 10-minute walk to the centre and in a trendy studenty part of town- we had a nice lunch at a Mexican place just across the road. We were seeing a concert at the Ulster Hall and this B&B was in a great location for the venue. The breakfast was freshly cooked to order. I had porridge with a shot of whiskey- a great way to start the day! There was on-site car parking and the staff kindly let us leave the car there after check-out. Not a bad word to say about this place.
