“I won't be returning!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2011

Where do I start - The room was tiny, there wasn't even a desk big enough to put a laptop. Apart from one old wardrobe and small tatty old dresser unit, there was nowhere to put clothes. The bed was uncomfortable, far too soft. Although an internet modem in the room was advertised, this was a dial-up modem, hardly useable current technology.
Breakfast wasn't great, possibly the worst cup of coffee I've ever had, and the scrambled eggs were tasteless!
I will say that I had absolutely no problems with the staff, very welcoming, and courteous.

I cut my stay short, and moved several km out of Newport to another hotel, which, for £5 more per night was just out of this world when comapred to this hotel. I will not be returning!

“Great place to stay - shame about the bed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 February 2011

Set on a hill that the M4 goes under this is a very good place to stay for the night.
It is surrounded by houses and is modern and very dog friendly.
The owners live on site and nothing is too much trouble. The main door is locked at night but if you ring the bell thay will come and let you in or out.
The breakfast was very good and the restaurant very well appointed and when we were there set up for a wedding reception the following day.
My only complaint is the the bed sagged in the middle and you rolled together but apart from that no problems with our stay.

“A great place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 September 2010

I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. We are staying here quite regularly due to work in the area and it is always a good stay. The staff are excellent, very friendly and they look after us brilliantly. The food (both breakfast and dinner) is amazing and even as a fussy eater there is always plenty of choice. Rooms are a good size and very comfortable.

“ideal for celtic manor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 June 2010

We stayed here for 3 nights when we were watching the Wales Open Golf at Celtic Manor. Don't be put off by the "Travelodge" exterior as the interior is quite cosy and more olde-worldy.
Located in a residential area just off the M4 but there's no noise from the motorway if you close the window. I slept well and, believe me, I need total quiet in order to get a good nights sleep.
The staff were all really friendly and helpful.
The room was quite large, well-furnished with a good-sized bathroom.
The bar and dining room were lovely with a patio area off the bar.
The evening meal was ok and not too expensive and the bar prices were good. There's nowhere else to get a good meal in the area unless you trek about in the car to find somewhere.
There's nothing to do at all in the immediate vicinity but that didn't bother us as we were there solely for the golf. It's an ideal spot for anyone who's there to see the Ryder Cup this year as there seems to be a lack of good accomodation in Newport unless you go for the Hilton or Celtic Manor Resort (bit pricey!).

We recently celebrated our Wedding at the Lodge, all the staff were more than accomadating throughtout the weekend, we were made welcome from the moment we walked in until the minute we left. Everything was set to the highest of standards anyone could possibly expect, and food was fantastic from Breakfast to the Wedding Menu to the evening buffet we could not have asked for anything more. Thank You Margaret and Peter for making our Wedding so special and Perfect.
