“Very nice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I stayed here for a night for a university visit. When we got at the hotel there was 30 plus students all gathering around the receptionist wanting their keys to go to their rooms and the receptionist handled it very good, however it did take a while. As i was one of the last people to get a room, they had run out of twin rooms so i couldnt share with my friend, however, they offered me a double room for myself which i could hardly refuse!

When i got to my room, what a surprise! I was expecting something basic but it was amazing! It was to a very high standards!

Me and my friends ordered our food from the hotel, i ordered something different to my mates then we all went back to our rooms. When our food wasnt ready within half an hour we went back to reception to ask where it was and she said it was on the way, and then informed me that they didnt have what i ordered so was cooking me something else. I thought it was a bit rude that they hadnt informed me beforehand but i enjoyed what i had instead.

Overall, i enjoyed staying here for the night and would love to stay again!

Room Tip: I would avoid sleeping in rooms facing the train tracks as it can become rather noisy!

“Brilliant Hotel, Excellent Staff. Cannot recommend enough!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I have been staying at this hotel for some time now going back months when I work in Cardiff for business. It is perfect for me as I work around the corner and it's cheaper than going home after a long days work. The breakfast have just recently been improved with some sausages added, good improvement well done management. If you are looking for a good deal for business speak to the reception manager Lois she is brilliant and knows how to keep the business rolling - gave me a deal of 53.50 including breakfast. You can also sign up for a loyalty pass to gain points, have not recieved my card yet so cannot comment on how it is progressing. well done to all staff involved.

“Short Break Perfection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

My partner and I have stayed at this hotel on more than one occasion when visiting cardiff.

The most recent was in December 2010 (in all that snow) we found the hotel really well, and although the car park was filled with snow managed to get in safe. The hotel was warm and staff welcoming.

The location is great if you don't mind a 10 minute walk to the town centre, however when we first visited we got a taxi from Cardiff Central Station which took a couple of minutes and wasn't expensive.

It is a standard travel lodge/premier inn type hotel and a great base for exploring Cardiff.
I will always look at this hotel first when we return to Cardiff.

“Excellent value on the deal we were on!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We booked via Late Rooms and the rate was incredible - a staggering £39 for room only, plus £1 for 24 hours of wireless internet and as I am writing this still in bed (!) yet to disover if I will be charged for parking - if it happens I gather it may be only £3. Sure the hotel is a tad out of town but we walked in for an evening meal and it did not seem to be that far. The welcome was brilliant and the room was large with comfy double beds - yet to try the shower but bathroom seems very clean and again more than adequate. If we had had the time we would have tried the lesuire facilties up at the more grander (and more expensive!) Mercure Holland House, where incidentally a friend tried to visit us there - I wonder how many times folk appear at the wrong hotel!
Only one small niggle, an over the bed light would not switch off and we had to unscrew the bulb and the other flickered whilst warming up.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be the same but not all have baths.

“Excellent Service & Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I stayed at the Mercure Cardiff Centre for one night, with a friend. Upon arrival we were both greeted with a warm smiling receptionist, of which I didn't catch her name. The check-in was speedy and quick.

However, when we entered our room, it was not the room we had originally booked. But this wasn't a problem, we were quickly swapped to a Twin Double Room, so no complaints there.

The room was spacious and quite big. I personally grew fond of the bathroom decor, which was absolutely spotless, kudos to house keeping there! The shower was absolutely lush, I spent about 50-60 minutes under it, as it was just right. The Heating and AC Facilities were standard, but worked well, and quite quickly at that.

The Beds were absolutely gorgeous, soft pillows and a sinkable mattress. I had a very good nights sleep. I arrived at the hotel with quite bad back pains, but after my nights sleep in that bed, they'd gone and I was feeling brilliant!

Only downside I would say is the location, but I didn't find it too much of a problem. It's quite remote as others have pointed out, and the Dual Carriageway/Roundabout combination IS quite dangerous and awkward. But it's okay once you pass this.

The two of us paid £50 altogether, which if split is of course £25 each. At that price this is an absolute steal, I had a fantastic stay. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I highly recommend this hotel!
