I wouldn't stay here if you paid me. As mentioned in other reviews the staff here were okay. Yes they were young, yes they needed to be prodded to get their attention but overall they are this hotels best feature - though that isn't saying a lot.
The room (room 2) was dirty, water stains on all of the walls, a dirty mattres, a dirty ironing board and a bathroom that stank of mildew. The drawrs had lots of drawers missing; oddly. Plus there was an infestation of ladybirds! There were at least 30 in the room! We managed to cloear these out but discovered rotting window frames were to blame.
A very sad balcony with no access was covered in dying rotting plant life attracting a lot of flies.
The whole place - except for the bar really needs an overhaul. The outside could look lovely if someone just spent the time to clean it!

Overall not a great choice.

The room was awful: stains on walls and ceilings. Peeling paint on bathroom walls. Sink drain stank and the sink overflow was full of stinky black slimy grime. Air vent full of dirt and fluff. Sash window didn't lock and just outside the window on a small balcony where the plant pots are there was lots of fag ends. The iron was covered in burn marks and green "stuff" which ruined hubby's shirt.
No remote for tv or hairdryer which others had- not a big deal but annoying all the same.
On checkout day the girl on reception managed to tear herself away from her personal call to say that she would send someone to the bar so we could order coffees and cold drinks as I had been waiting for sometime listening to the staff elsewhere chatting and giggling away- finally greeted by a female staff member who essentially couldn't be ar$ed to serve me as the tills weren't on despite me offering to pay cash so she could ring through later.

Most of the bar staff were friendly on the night of the function but it felt like the place was being run by 20 year olds- the most senior guy there was pretty scruffy which makes you question how much pride is being taken elsewhere.
We were there for a wedding- 3 of us had jacket potatoes that were raw in the middle for as part of our meal.
This is a budget hotel and I don't mind old styling etc but there is no excuse for poor cleanliness, poor customer service and poor maintenance.

I write this with apologies to the very friendly and helpful staff who deserve better. The only real positive other than them is that the bathroom was spotlessly clean and had a good fast running bath and shower. However, the room felt pretty grim. The roller blind on the small window didn't roll and had to be kind of unwrapped in order to close it. The furnishings were old fashioned and the pillows felt old and hard. The TV showed about 5 completely random channels with a fuzzy picture, The complimentary biscuits were stale. I was woken @ about 5.30am by loud conversations and laughter emanating from the corridors and somewhere below and this didn't stop.
Breakfast was served in a lovely light and clean room and looked great, however, the scrambled egg was cold, the bacon was dry, the sausages tasteless, and I actually couldn't cut the fried bread!
I honestly wouldn't have minded this hotel at about half the price as it was OK to just stay a night in, but @£58 for a single, I'd rather book a double in a chain hotel @£10 less every time.

I would stay here again, got the cottage mews which was something different...Warm welcome and nice clean rooms. Would definately recommend this place... Nice breakfast too...
