My husband and I got married here in January 2012, having both the ceremony and reception at the venue. We booked a long time in advance based on the Lodge itself and the stunning views, it was just what we wanted for a fairly relaxed informal wedding. I have to say we were a little worried having read some of the previous reviews however our experience was very positive.
The ceremony went perfectly and as my husband and I walked back down the aisle we were greeted by Sarah with a big smile and our welcome drinks and shown out onto the balcony/terrace area. The mulled wine was very nice (just what you needed on a cold day) and the canapes were very tasty. Our guests had plenty of time to mingle and enjoy the scenery before we were called downstairs for the sit down meal.
We had been to Bath for a menu tasting with Strawberry Fields a few months prior to the wedding and having both worked at large weddings ourselves, were not expecting the quality to be as good on the day. We were proved wrong, the meal was perfect and just as we had tasted when served to just two of us, which is very hard to do! We went for the fishcakes, rump of lamb in pink peppercorn sauce with dauphinoise followed by cherry bakewell tart and it was all delicious. Our vegetarians had a portobello mushroom and we have been told this was very very tasty! Although I thought the tasting was quite expensive and meant a trip to Bath we decided to make a weekend of it and timed it with the start of the Christmas market and all in all found it very worthwhile.
The staff were very efficient and it didn't take long for all our guests to be served with their meals. There were a couple of staff circulating the room taking drinks orders for the bar, which is a great idea to save the guests (usually the men!) heading upstairs and congregating at the bar.
For our evening buffet we opted for a combination of Welsh rarebit, sausage baguettes and chicken and mango wraps and it went down brilliantly. I made a point of tasting one of each, they were all so good but being so tightly laced into my dress I simply could not fit anymore in! I was pleased to see the sausage baguettes were served in both white and brown soft rolls.
The bar staff were very efficient and Dai was so helpful throughout the day, setting out extra tables as more guests arrived in the evening and then taking them down when the party was in full swing and more dancing space was needed!
The venue itself was just fantastic and so many of our friends and family commented on the the stunning views over the lake. It was just lovely in the evening to be out on the balcony with the chimnea's going for a bit of warmth.
As the Lodge is not a hotel/public restaurant there are not other people wandering around and as there are not lots of bars/rooms your guests are all in one place making for a great atmosphere. The internal stairs and lift are a huge bonus and made all the difference to just having the external spiral stairs.
We are so pleased we chose the Canda Lodge for our wedding and both had a wonderful day, Sarah, Dai and the staff were so organised and efficient it all went very smoothly. I highly recommend it!
