“Nice quiet place, with friendly owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Me and my sister stayed here for 3-4 days last Oct and we couldn't fault anything. The breakfast was great, the owners provided us with useful information on the walks we could do and the room was really comfortable. It's a small town away from the bigger Beddgelert so we usually ate at the restaurant nearby but the food was fine so we didn't mind.

It was slightly confusing getting there without our own car (what with the bus changes) but it's simpler than it seems (as long as you've done your homework).

Pity we couldn't stay long, but we hope to come back again, thanks Emma & Menno!

“Nice, but............”

I visited with my young family, we had a delicious cream tea with freshly made cakes and scones which we all really enjoyed. Having paid and left the premises we were then chased up the road by the owner who accused us of stealing a wicker napkin holder-truly embarrassing not to mention upsetting! I sent my husband back down and it turns out they had actually found the item. Shame-nice place but we certainly wont be setting foot in there again!

“Wonderful B&B with great owners on the quieter side of Mount Snowdon”

Owners Emma and Menno were truly outstanding in welcoming all to their B&B and Tea Room. Although Rhyd Ddu is on the less-traveled side of Mount Snowdon, it is the perfect base. Although we stayed in the self-catering cottage across the street, our group of 5 wished we would have stayed at Ty Mawr, According to other customers we met during our weekend stay in Rhyd Ddu, the rooms were nice and beds very comfortable. We ate our breakfasts there each day instead of the pub down the street, which was good value, and they made a great packed lunch for our hike up the mountain for only £4. The owners were very helpful with everything from telling us where the Rhyd Ddu path started (only 200 meters up the road, where the Snowdon train also picks up / drops off), to jump starting our car when we realized the battery was dead! Everything was clean and cheerful. The Rhyd Ddu path is also one of the best Snowdon paths to climb, as it is on the quieter side of Snowdon and therefore less run with hoardes of tour groups and hundreds upon hundreds of hikers. If we go back to Snowdon, we will DEFINITELY be staying at Ty Mawr.

“Perfect”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 April 2010

This was a really fab break in a wonderful B&B that was ran by Emma and Menno. We really enjoyed our brief (2 night) stay and wished it could have been for longer. The location was fab, the rooms were nice, warm and comfy and the breakfast excellent. We had a really good meal in the loacal pub on the first night and an outstanding supper in the B&B on our second night. It almost seems an own goal to publicise this great venue because such positive (and very well deserved) feedback may in-turn attract too much attention, when if honest I would prefer to keep it a guilty secret. Nevertheless it is a gem and should be shared, hopefully not when we want to return, which will be sooner rather then later. Emma and Menno, thanks again for a great stay and hope to see you again in the not too distant future. Best regards Chris Denise and Katie.

“One of the Best B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

Conveniently situated in the lovely village of Rhyd ddu. In the shadow of Snowdon with Beddgelert and its forest just a stone throw away, you can't find a better location to stay. Most Wonderful hosts, friendly and very helpful. The food was good especially dinner, good mix of traditional English and a little Dutch flavour. Pack lunch is available and at $4 each is very affordable. Enjoyed the whole experience. Highly Recommended :)
