“A cracking B&B in the heart of Wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2011

Reading some of the prior reviews you'd be forgiven for thinking that they are too good to be true! However this place is definitely a gem.

Arriving late on a Thursday night I was greeted by John who took my bag through to room number 5 'The Cell' - "the best place for me" !! It is a cracking single room with all the previous 'charms', such as the prison door, still intact.

I had to be up a little earlier the next morning (for a windy trip up Snowdon) and John was very accommodating, making my breakfast a few minutes earlier than the usual 8am start. The full welsh breakfast is superb, proper mountain climbing fuel!

I'd definitely stop here again if I find myself in Wales as it's a great place to stay!

Room Tip: Try the full welsh breakfast!

“Excellent. Highly recommended.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 March 2011

Stopped for 3 nights late March for a driving and sightseeing short holiday. Fortunate to find the single room available on the day I wanted to travel.

The B&B is beautifully situated right next to the river Conwy and overlooking a farm field full of new born lambs when I was there. Sitiuated 2 minutes walk away from the main street of Betws-y-coed and consequently very quiet and virtually no traffic. The excellent breakfast from a number of choices is enhanced by the views from the dining room. The full Welsh breakfast is a challenge to finish but beautifully and freshly cooked at a time to suit between 8/9am but flexible.

The single room (Cell 5!) has everything you could need and was very quiet and comfortable. The bathroom is seperate, 1m across the corridor, but is entirely private and has an excellent shower so not being en-suite is no issue at all. The usual tea/coffee etc tray is provided and re-stocked every day.

The flavour of the "Old Courthouse" is retained throughout with interesting memorabilia dotted around. The original cell doors are retained which is a nice touch. The whole of the establishment is immaculately clean and well maintained.

Claire and John are excellent and friendly hosts and are only too willing to advise on the area. There is plenty of printed information leaflets readily available for just about anything in Wales.

For the quality of the facilities provided the rates are most reasonable and will not be bettered by anything comparable.

Ideally situated for both local attractions and an ideal base for day trips round North Wales. Free parking on the premises with own large walled car park. Plenty of shops with basic provisions and eateries of all types and cost within a couple of minutes walk. Shell petrol near at hand 5p/litre cheaper than I am used to! The Stables bar is OK for basic pub food and the Red Dragon which is maybe 15 mins walk along A5 out of the vilage provides good Chinese and Tai food.

All in all an excellent 3 days with charming hosts.

“A wonderful stay with lovely hosts- thank you!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 February 2011

What a lovely place to stay!

Perfectly located in Betws-y-coed, we loved our stay at the courthouse. Our room (the interrogation room!) was spatious with a large en suite bathroom. Views from the room/bathroom were across the garden and river and were delightful. Our hosts Claire and John were brilliant and friendly from the off. We were greeted by Claire on arrival and met John the following morning as he served us breakfast. Both were lovely and extremely helpful, going out of their way to ask our plans and advise us on places to go and see. Breakfast was also fantastic, with a wide selection of cooked dishes to choose from (we loved the kippers and also the full Welsh) and tea galore!

The location in Betws-y-coed was also a bonus. We visited Conwy, Beaumaris, Caenarfon, Llanberris and Beddgelert..all of which seemed easy to drive to in under an hour.

We would highly recommend this location and the Courthouse to others and would certainly like to stay again in the future. Thanks to Claire and John for helping to make our first weekend away as a couple such a memorable one!

“1st class accomodation, excellent food and hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

We originally stayed in mid-July for a few days. Having had such an excellent stay, we rebooked all rooms in the hotel and took along family and friends for a weekend.
Claire and John were again very accomodating in tailoring our needs during our stay. As we booked the entire hotel Claire agreed to prepare an evening meal for us. This was second to none. The food was plentiful, hot and could not have been better.
Our holiday began late on a Friday Night. John and Claire greeted us on our arrival as requested with a hot drink at the ready. They had re-arranged the dining room to enable us to all sit together. Breakfast each day was prepared for usat a time pre-arranged to suit our party.
Our evening meal was a Hot Roast dinner which consisted of fresh produce. After dinner the conservatory was cleared to enable us to use as a place for our party to sit and play board games, which are provided for use by clients at the hotel. It was a lovely setting in which to sit.
I would recommend this hotel and its hosts to anyone wishing to spend some quality time with friends and family or for a special family gathering.
Our party consisted of 2 teenagers,8 adults and a 3 year old. We visited Llanberris Slate Museum and Llandudno during our stay. A paddle in the water falls was great for the teenagers and young adults. A craft fayre was held on the field close to the hotel during our stay. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.
Our time at The Courthouse was so good we will be staying again in 2011 and have already made enquiries about staying.
