“Great location. Campsite 3 star -not 4.”
We decided to upgrade on our usual family camping trip and go for a 4 star place instead of just a field with small facilities. Fab location, close to Snowdon and great walks, streams, hills and pretty villages nearby. However, the field we were camping in was next to the stream and the furthest one from the toilet blocks - which were 3 or so fields walk away. Take a bucket - unless you want a longer walk than most at night. Unfortunately for us we endured the usual bank holiday rain, so much so that the field became like a ploughed one as only the caravan pitches had any tarmac / gravel roads. The car nearly got stuck! Mud, mud and more mud. The 4 star toilets that I was expecting were decent as in, they had hot water - which was the main thing, but not that clean (plasters and mud) and I didn't see a family bathroom anywhere (although to be fair, didn't bother asking). One bloke in reception was pretty friendly but the other two were miserable as sin and didn't make us feel welcome. The games room had a couple of pool tables for the kids, then there was a sofa lounge area and a laundrette. All in all, a decent campsite but certainly not the 4 stars we were expecting and had to note that they were displaying certificates for best campsite awards won - but only up to 2007.
