After a leisurely drive through Wales it was late afternoon and we’d stopped off in Conwy, we’d been touring all day so we decided to stay over rather than drive back home. We used Tourist Information to find our accommodation, the lady there had a confidence about the booking, "I'm not supposed to say too much but you’ll be alright", she’d booked us into Whinward House. We made the short drive to the discrete former coach house and parked in the drive, stepping out of the car we were greeted by Chris, he’d been tending the garden, he guided us into the house where we met his wife Janis, she took us to our room, a pretty standard greeting, but here’s the difference, already we didn’t feel like customers staying at a guesthouse, we felt like guests staying at Janis and Chris’s home, their guesthouse is a home, they are very welcoming and their welcome feel natural…We could describe the location, the room, and the breakfast, which were all fine, we couldn’t try to list all the little things they did to make us comfortable, remember we hadn’t set out to stay overnight and we hadn’t any of the necessaries with us. In the evening after a short walk into town for dinner we returned to the Whinward to find our hosts sitting in the garden around a sparking log fire, again it felt totally comfortable when they invited us to join them and we spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening with them. I don’t suppose catching Janis and Chris sitting around flames and embers can be part of everyone’s experience…but Janis and Chris will make you feel at home, amongst friends and do their best for you.
