Stayed here for a 'Gourmet' short break at end January 2012. Hotel was very good and renovations seem to be on-going. Very upmarket feel to the improved areas and must mention the excellent attitude and service the staff provide. Friendly, professional and not intrusive. The evening meals were excellent (breakfast was rather ordinary and served in the bar). We didn't partake of the afternoon tea but I understand it has a good reputation.
Part of our stay included a meal at Shaun HIlls' Walnut Tree (we had previously been to his restaurant, the Merchant House, in Ludlow, which I think was the best meal I have ever had, and I have had some terrific ones). This meal did not disappoint and was truly delicious!
We would definitely stay here again but our room was very disappointing (room 26) as it was very small and mean. The room was cold and we had to ask for an extra heater and extra blankets - which were promptly provided. So if we do go again we would ask for a different room.
