I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions through work and considering I travel and stay in hotels a lot, this hotel is one of the worst...
Hotel Appearance
The outside and lobby areas of the hotel look nice. The hotel appears to look like an up-market place to stay, but that’s where it ends. Get past reception and the rest of the hotel looks very dated. The rooms have dated TVs and radiators rather than A/C heating. This means you can hear the water gurgling through the radiators if you leave them on at night. The restaurant, or ‘brassiere’, looks and feels deserted, with wide open spaces and few people dining.
Food (Dinner)
The food in the hotel is bad. On the first occasion there was a group of 10 of us and we all ordered the Bewleys Burger. You would expect this to be a pretty easy order to fulfil, but it took over two hours to serve us from start to finish and the burgers tasted and looked like they were cooked for much longer – they were solid bricks of meat, completely dry with no flavour. The second meal I ordered a week or so later was a jacket potato with beans and cheese and some coleslaw on the side (I thought that they would have to try really hard to get this wrong! ...Wrong!). The dish was flavourless and the coleslaw was so vile that it was inedible.
Food (Breakfast)
The only thing I can liken the breakfast in the Bewleys to is a motorway service station 10 years ago... not good. The ‘cooked’ food looks and tastes like it has been there all week. I tried it once and ended up walking to Tesco to buy my breakfast after that.
Staff
Some of the staff I spoke to were nice and had a smile, but a lot of the others really seemed like they had had better things to do than serve you at the check-in/out. One guy kept me waiting for several minutes while he flirted with a female member of staff about her plans for the weekend, whilst I was stood in full view of him with no one else serving and no one else waiting. When the female member of staff noticed I was waiting she apologised and walked off, but the male member of staff looked annoyed and told me to wait when I approached him, only for him to stare at the screen for 5 seconds and then to say he was ready to see me – no apology - what kind of hotel is this when the staff seem to be on a power trip?!
All in all, I wouldn’t stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. There are other hotels in Leeds where you get a much better service and food.
Room Tip: don't bother with the upgrade unless you really think an extra chair in your room is worth it.

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Tripadvisor.co.uk.
I am disappointed to read that not all your expectations were met, I will have to disagree with you on certain points, we are most definitely not a terrible hotel and regularly receive positive feed back abut our service and food but with that said I would like to reassure you that I have personally shared your opinion with the rest of my team. It is our aim to achieve a level of service which is beyond our guests’ expectations, and I am therefore grateful you have advised me of this valuable feedback.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back soon and in the meantime, if we may assist further, please do not hesitate to contact us direct.
Sincerely,
Ben Lawrence
