“Comfortable Hotel - Ideal for a overnight business trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This is a good hotel in ideally located in Leeds. A 10 minute walk from the station and 15 mins to Leeds centre.

The check-in staff are very friendly and helpful although, as with most large hotels, there was a queue to check-in and out. There is a good bar and a restaurant (although i have not sampled the food), there was a general buzz of noise around the lobby and bar area as you would expect although the corridors to the rooms were quiet through the night leading to a good nights sleep.

The rooms are adequatly sized and clean and tidy and the bed very comfortable. All in all a good hotel for a business stay

“If your wanting a restless night this is the hotel for you”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

One receptionist on arrival meant we were waiting ages to check in, a musty smell in the corridor to our room tinged with cigarette smoke!
Disturbed nights sleep with doors banging and people knocking on each others doors and shouting-
Then they charge you £9 to park your car overnight when you leave.
Location and Rooms were decent enough though but won't stay here again.

“great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Lovely people at the hotel desk...we even had our luggage weighed by a very kind and patient receptionist!

Breakfast, both the continental and the English version are buffet, and worth it, if you enjoy a good hearty breakfast when away :)

the only criticism i have is about the pillow - it was way too high! which is why i rated the sleep quality as 'average', the room was very quiet and we had Wifi in the room - great!

excellent value for money, and a short walking distance away from the heart of the shopping centres!

enjoy your stay there :)

“Refused our group re-entry into our rooms”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I booked 2 rooms for a party of 4 with late check out. Upon arrival we were given the wrong rooms and when we returned to the hotel after a night out (at around 3am) the 'bouncer' guarding the entrance wouldn't let us back in as his 'list' said I had booked 2 rooms for a total of 2 people.

Handled in the worst way possible. We were basically accused of trying to scam our way into our fully paid rooms. The receptionist finally let us in after endless questions and accusations. The next morning a staff member walked into our room (despite out 'do not disturb' sign clearly hanging outside) and asked us to check out. I then had to explain we had already paid for late check out. Yet the hotel would surely have known this.

Would NOT recommend this hotel, I'd recommend the Hilton just down the road over Bewleys Leeds ANY day.

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to feed back your comments regarding your recent stay, I am sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations while staying here with us at the Bewleys Hotel Leeds, you have my sincerest apologies.
The confusion stemmed from when booking was made online, although 2 rooms were booked only 2 adults were added to the booking and so our system took the rooms to both be single occupancy.
I’m sure you will appreciate that we take our guest’s safety and security very seriously; hence the doorman checking people’s names & room occupancy’s against a list.
It is a legal requirement that we know who and how many people are in a room and the hotel.
When a discrepancy occurs we then need to investigate and to do so need to ask the relevant questions to ascertain that all the information we have is correct.
Unfortunately when booking the late checkout online this did not come through to our system correctly from the website and so reception were unaware of it, we are in the process of remedying this issue.
Once again thank you for your comments, should you wish to discuss the matter further please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Ben Lawrence

“OK hotel with terrible food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions through work and considering I travel and stay in hotels a lot, this hotel is one of the worst...

Hotel Appearance
The outside and lobby areas of the hotel look nice. The hotel appears to look like an up-market place to stay, but that’s where it ends. Get past reception and the rest of the hotel looks very dated. The rooms have dated TVs and radiators rather than A/C heating. This means you can hear the water gurgling through the radiators if you leave them on at night. The restaurant, or ‘brassiere’, looks and feels deserted, with wide open spaces and few people dining.

Food (Dinner)
The food in the hotel is bad. On the first occasion there was a group of 10 of us and we all ordered the Bewleys Burger. You would expect this to be a pretty easy order to fulfil, but it took over two hours to serve us from start to finish and the burgers tasted and looked like they were cooked for much longer – they were solid bricks of meat, completely dry with no flavour. The second meal I ordered a week or so later was a jacket potato with beans and cheese and some coleslaw on the side (I thought that they would have to try really hard to get this wrong! ...Wrong!). The dish was flavourless and the coleslaw was so vile that it was inedible.

Food (Breakfast)
The only thing I can liken the breakfast in the Bewleys to is a motorway service station 10 years ago... not good. The ‘cooked’ food looks and tastes like it has been there all week. I tried it once and ended up walking to Tesco to buy my breakfast after that.

Staff
Some of the staff I spoke to were nice and had a smile, but a lot of the others really seemed like they had had better things to do than serve you at the check-in/out. One guy kept me waiting for several minutes while he flirted with a female member of staff about her plans for the weekend, whilst I was stood in full view of him with no one else serving and no one else waiting. When the female member of staff noticed I was waiting she apologised and walked off, but the male member of staff looked annoyed and told me to wait when I approached him, only for him to stare at the screen for 5 seconds and then to say he was ready to see me – no apology - what kind of hotel is this when the staff seem to be on a power trip?!

All in all, I wouldn’t stay here again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone else. There are other hotels in Leeds where you get a much better service and food.

Room Tip: don't bother with the upgrade unless you really think an extra chair in your room is worth it.

Dear Reviewer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Tripadvisor.co.uk.
I am disappointed to read that not all your expectations were met, I will have to disagree with you on certain points, we are most definitely not a terrible hotel and regularly receive positive feed back abut our service and food but with that said I would like to reassure you that I have personally shared your opinion with the rest of my team. It is our aim to achieve a level of service which is beyond our guests’ expectations, and I am therefore grateful you have advised me of this valuable feedback.
We very much look forward to welcoming you back soon and in the meantime, if we may assist further, please do not hesitate to contact us direct.

Sincerely,

Ben Lawrence
