“Not Like It Used To Be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I recently stayed here on business for five nights while attending a trade show at the NEC. This was probably the fourth of fifth time, other stays have been alright, but this time I felt that something had changed, had the hotel changed hands, not sure. A previous reviewer commented on the receptionist peering over the counter, not very welcoming. Having to wait for bar staff to appear was not good, especially after a hard day's work. The room I had was adequate, clean spacious, with everything to hand, but I did hear of problems from some of my colleagues too, like hot (only HOT) water in one room. But for all the time I was there, there was a dead fly on one of the window sills on the stairs, it hadn't been cleaned away in all of the five days. Food was adequate, but breakfasts were far too greasy, the fried eggs under done, a waitress took away bread rolls before we had finished, claiming they were running short. One meal my colleagues had, three different steaks were ordered, but they were all (under) cooked. All in all, a lovely old building, but it needs a bit of something to bring it to life.

“Lovely country hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Booked this hotel for a 70th birthday celebration at end of January. We had a dinner, bed and breakfast deal which was good value for money. Lovely setting and very convenient as only a 5 minute drive from the M40 but still very quiet. Friendly and very helpful staff and our room was really nice with a four poster bed. In total we had 5 rooms, including one family room and all were nicely decorated. Food was good although there seemed to be a lack of waiting staff on the night, however they coped adequately considering there was also an 80th birthday party at the same time. Breakfast was self service full english and was good. There was a large bar with plenty of comfortable seating and also a quiet lounge. The pool and small gym were good. I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: All the rooms we had were very good. Some overlooked the garden but ours opened out onto a courtyar...

“Another night in Barford.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I continue to use this hotel for business trips as some of the other hotels in the area do not appeal. The staff are courteous & friendly, the food is well prepared, the wine list reasonably priced, the rooms generally comfortable. There is an indoor pool of a fair size. Internet access is not a problem. The property is old and retains its character, whilst providing up to date facilities. Will stay again.

Room Tip: 112 is one of the largest but does face the inner courtyard.

“Nice hotel in a lovely location”

From the moment we walked into the reception we were greeted with nothing but friendly and helpful staff. Our weekend stay was booked on a special deal which included dinner bed and breakfast. The food was excellent, good choices, well presented. The catering staff were very helpful, polite and very efficient. The rooms were clean comfortable and well appointed. The health club was a bonus, and more than appropriate for the rating of the hotel. A nice clean hotel with excellent standards.

“Needs a modern makeover”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We stayed here for a few nights and we were very disappointed with how old fashioned the rooms were. Nothing seemed to have changed since the 80s including the bedding, furniture, fittings, everything! The shower didnt work I think because the water pressure is low. We stay in a lot of small hotels and guesthouses and this one reminded us of the ones shown on Hotel Inspector. More positively the pool is ok though again no money seems to have spent on it. I would say that this place is ok if you just want somewhere to lay your head, you don't mind having a bath instead of a shower and you don't really care what your room is like. There are a lot nicer places to stay in Warwickshire

Room Tip: Ask them for one of their better rooms!
