“Low-end conference hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed here for one night only on our way back from an overseas holiday. We did not have great expectations and were therefore not too disappointed by what we found. On the minus side the double room was small, the bathroom tiny, the TV ancient and reception poor. All had recently been given a lick of paint but this was really insufficient to relieve the dreariness of the decor (torn linings on the curtains, and the carpets outside the room had flakes of dry paint everywhere that no-one had bothered to hoover up). On the plus side it was not expensive at £59 bed only for the night in a double (although the Internet was showing it at £49 when I looked earlier that day). The towels were very nice and top of the range, the water was hot and the bed was reasonable. Location was good and the building itself had some character. Overall this hotel seems to specialise in low-end conferences (lots of conference rooms with cheap and uncomfortable looking furniture) and is not suitable for more than a night or so as a stopover for private travellers

“The bells!”

Check in was simple enough!
I was given room 115 which was a decent size with a separate dressing room! Tv was tiny! Room was freezing so I phoned down to reception for the lady to say "oh I will put your heating on then" hello it's January! To warm up I thought I would run a nice hot bath! Big mistake as the water was brown yes brown so I couldn't stay in the freezing room any longer! So went out! When I returned the room had warmed up slightly! Didn't sleep very well as the bells from the local church must be very close as they woke me every hour on the hour :0(
Breakfast was very overpriced at 9.95! On a positive note the hotel has alot of character and the staff were all friendly :0)

“Functional, but not much else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Hotel was decent enough but the room was absolutely tiny and a bit noisy, the bed was pretty hard, breakfast was OK. All in all it seemed very expensive and could do with someone giving its management a bit of a shake, as there is potential here

“Lord Leycester Hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

We stayed at this hotel December 2011 we were put in a very shabby room 101 the blinds over the windows would not close if they did close they fell down we had to ask them to put the heating on as the room was freezing cold the bathroom over looked the main road and the window was right next to the shower with an ill fitting shower curtain over the window and the window had clear glass in so you could be seen very clearly from the street below having a shower. we asked to be moved from that room we were put in room 210 which was on the 2nd floor up and down stairs to get to the room each time we went anywhere,it was not a double bed like we booked for but 2 single beds pushed together with a big lump in the middle of it we had no hot water for the first night we were there as nobody explained that the switch for the immersion heater was in the room and then you had to open the bath tap and the sink tap for ten mins and then we managed to get hot water the toilet did not flush and yes the room was freezing cold all the time i did ask them to turn the heating on but this was ignored by the receptionist and to top it all there was a private function being held Saturday night and the music bounced round our room till 1.00am First and last stay at this place no wonder they took your payment from you soon as you arrived so you could not escape after seeing the tired rooms and corridors on checking out in the morning we were never asked how our stay was in fact the receptionist was quite in polite it was the worst £59 a night i have ever spent
