“Nice pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We ate at the pub within the hotel called The Bear. I thought it was excellent with a first class range of beers and food.
Good pub atmosphere with plenty of locals and reasonably busy for a Monday lunch time. The only fly in the ointment for us was the length of time waiting for your food to arrive once your order had been placed. Apparently they share the kitchen with the hotel. That's the only reason I haven't given an excellent rating. You do get charged a fiver though for parking, there is a public car park directly opposite which charges £6 for 6 hours so you can save a quid and park all day.

“Comfortable room, great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The room and bathroom were clean and well presented. The bed was comfortable. It was nice to receive a complimentary bottle of water. The location is as good as you are going to get in Stratford. A morning walk along the Avon is very nice and the town centre is just five minutes away. The hotel bar serves some great real ales too, but it can get a little busy. The only downside was the breakfast. It wasn't expensive, but there wasn't a lot either. It was more like something i'd expect to see in a downmarket motel. Car parking can also be a little difficult when the hotel is busy.

I'd stay here again for sure when coming to Stratford, but next time i'll walk into town for breakfast!

“Good Nights Sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

I stayed here for just 1 night on a business trip.
Hotel location is very handy for the town. Lots of things to see, and restaurants and pubs in the area.. but there is no need to go out, as the hotel has great food, and the bar is a nice place to drink a beer.
Rooms are well maintained and clean.
I had a great nights sleep.
Staff are friendly and helpful
Parking appears to be a little problem at lunch time, (many Xmas lunches), but you can use the parking on their sister hotel across the road.
Parking is Pay & Display for non guests, so you can get a ticket from reception.

Room Tip: Take a room in the main (old) part o fthe hotel, as the rooms appear to be larger

“Not a good experience”

We decided to spend new year away as a treat and booked this hotel for new years eve and new years day. When we arrived we were given a room on the ground floor and the lights blew when we switched them on. The handyman came and sorted it. Then I went to have a bath and the knight in the bathroom was very I'm and kept flickering. The man came and sorted it. I tried to run a bath and the water jut trickled out and was only Luke warm, the anger came and said it was alright but we were unhappy so they moved us to another room which was a suite, it looked lovely and had a stunning bathroom with boiling hot water which was lovely. We wanted to book a meal in the hotels French restaurant, but it was fully booked with party's. So we went into Stratford and had a lovely meal there. When we returned we went to bed. There was a constant noise and the bed was vibrating so we pulled them away from the wall as it was the wall that was vibrating. The noise continued all night and kept us awake. It stopped for ten minutes at 6.50am and then started again. When we went downstairs for breakfast we told the lady at the desk and they moved us again but the room would not be ready until 2pm. We spent the day wandering around the beautiful butterfly farm and Stratford upon Avon. The restaurant was again closed so we had lunch in the bar which was full as there was a football match on. When we were given our room it was pleasant but had no bath, which is unfortunate as I suffer with back problems an a bath eases the pain. The lady in reception did say she would move us again but the room she was going to give us was next door the one we had the previous night. The noise was caused by a huge cooling fan next to the room. We liked Stratford but we left very tired and dissapointed with the overall experience at the hotel. I think the room with the fan was no 211

Room Tip: Don't have the one next to the fan on the second loot room 211

“Expensive but great reception staff!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We booked the Swan's Nest via booking.com 7 months ahead of our trip to Stratford Upon Avon. At £135 per night (B + B) it is not great value for money, but superbly located for the Royal Shakespeare Theatre (the reason for our visit) and within walking distance of most of the town's other attractions.

On arrival the reception manager was unable to trace our booking (although we had a printout from the booking.com website with a booking reference). She said that the hotel usually keeps a few rooms available for Friday and Saturday nights 'just in case' - which was good news for us. We had given our credit card details to pay (as required) on booking but the hotel had not received payment. It turned out that our card had not been debited.

The reception manager did not insist on payment 'up front' and said that when she had contacted booking.com after the weekend she would charge our card only if they had not already done so. A few days later she mailed us a copy of the credit card receipt after she had taken payment.

Our room was large and comfortable, although the view from the window was of a nondescript building across a flat roof. We found on returning at 11.00 pm that a party (complete with a band) was taking place below our room. Thankfully the music stopped at midnight.

Breakfast was undistinguished - we both had kippers, which turned out to be of the 'boil in the bag' variety and it was difficult to distinguish the casually-dressed waiting staff (who had to be asked for each cup of tea or coffee - no pots were left on the table) from the guests because of the lack of uniforms. Would we stay here again? Regrettably, despite the excellent reception manager, not at this price!
