Went on a company meeting. Rooms nice but could do with an upgrade.
Food good. Didn't have time to enjoy the facilities.
Would like to go back when not on business.

I booked a 1 night spa break (through spabreaks.com) for myself and 4 friends on a Saturday in mid December. We paid £119 for a nights accommodation, 3 course evening meal and spa treatment on the Sunday. It was recommended as the hotel has a small number of apartments meaning that the 5 of us could all stay together (rather than have separate hotel rooms) and have a living area/kitchen at our disposal. The apartments are very modern and a short walk from the main hotel (2 mins max). The kitchen/living area was spacious and had heated flooring and it was immaculately decorated throughout.

The decor of the main hotel is more traditional and in keeping with a country house. The real feature is the fireplace in the lounge/sitting room. It is really impressive, more so I imagine in the winter when the log fire was kept going all day. On the Sunday after checking out, we couldn't bring ourselves to move from it to go into Stratford (as initially planned) and we read papers, chatted and had lunch for a few hours till it was time to leave. Otherwise we may have tried to sleep there it was so comfortable.

The spa facilities were great. Reasonable sized pool plus a couple of foot spa's, sauna, steam room. The big hit (for me anyway) were the heated 'sun' loungers. These were heated loungers by the side of the pool. I may have had a sheltered life but have never experienced these before. Again they were so comfortable I could have laid there for hours. On the Sunday we all had treatments. I was 33 weeks pregnant and rang ahead to inform them so I could have a special shoulder and back massage which was heavenly. A couple of friends enjoyed their massages. One person had a nail manicure but was distinctly underwhelmed with it and the quality.

We ate in the restaurant on Saturday evening. The food was delicious and again on the Sunday morning for breakfast. I was really impressed with the variety on offer - pastries, cheeses, hams, fruits etc - a really good continental option as well as an extensive self-serve English breakfast.

All-in-all a fabulous stay. Not sure I would recommend as a base for exploring Stratford as we just didn't want to leave!!!

Went to this hotel for a couple of nights in the first week of Jan 2012, great time to get away as places are quieter and the deals are great. Had a 2 nights bb and 1 night dinner package.

The Spa/Gym was a biggest surprise...the pics dont lie! It was the cleanest hotel spa/gym I have been to in the UK, with a jacuzzi which was actually hot, hot tiled beds, feet massage pools and then added to this all the usual stuff you expect. Most impressive feature was a large triangle shaped jacuzzi which was enclosed by glass walls of the spa but open air. You must seen the pics to appreciate it. Only thing is it isnt connected to hotel, but its only a 30 second walk. SPA treatments were also to a decent standard.

The food and wine at the hotel for diiner was also a high standard....given the food was thrown in with the price it was good value. Breakfast was ok...not to the same standard as dinner to be honest, probably cos for the hot breakfast I enjoy a buffet service. Cold food you could help yourselves. Dont get me wrong it was more than acceptable.

We stayed in a refurb standard double room so bathroom was clean and modern. Had an imac which was different so you could watch tv and go on the internet. It was clean and pretty standard. Didnt have a mini bar, but they did provide a bottle of water and tea and coffee.

The general hotel and the grounds were impressive and having a glass of wine in front of the huge real fire was excellent. Didnt get to try the golf course but hope you go back and have a round there and then go to the spa.

Hotel is 30 secs drive from the centre of Stratford Upon Avon and would recommend it.

Also wanted to mention Steven the evening receptionist...he is a character, and helped us enormously when we needed it!

My partner and I stayed at the Welcombe between 28th December and New Years Eve. It was our second stay at the hotel and we were keen to return after our initial stay in the summer (see earlier review).

Once again, our stay at the hotel was excellent. Service in all areas is very good but special mention must go to the restaurant and reception staff who always excel in courtesy, helpfulness and efficiency.

In response to my earlier review the manager said that the hotel looked great at Christmas and it certainly did! The log fire in the lounge was kept burning throughout our stay and it was great just to spend a lazy afternoon reading there and drinking tea. The bar had been refurbished since the summer and, although I liked the old Chesterfield sofas, the new decor was tasteful and fitting and the new sofas comfortable.

I have one 'even better if'. Service at the bar can be slow as the server is seemingly called to help set up the restaurant at quiet times. Perhaps a bell or 'bleep' system to attract his/ her attention when a guest is waiting would be good.

Apart from this one minor gripe, the hotel once again provided an excellent getaway for my partner and I to totally relax. It is extremely rare to come across such fantastic customer service in the UK. My partner and I will definitely be returning again as soon as possible.
