“Great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I booked this accommodation at short notice and focussed more on the location than the type of establishment.
This is not a hotel I would stay at again as it's typical of its type. However it makes the best of what it has but this can't change the fact that it is an old building. The walls are thin so it can be noisy and the patterned carpets everywhere are not to my taste but hey - it was just for one night.
Parking opposite is free which is a big bonus although you need a pass to avoid getting clamped.
For shopping and the local sites you couldn't do any better. Other very big plus points are the breakfast and the staff who could not be faulted. I have given it an average rating as I just couldn't bring myself to give a "very good" but for the rate I paid I shouldn't complain. Probably more of a 3.5!
So - fine for an overnight stay but not somewhere to stay for more than that and unless you are part of a hen party or stag night I would avoid weekends or in summer as it's in the middle of the bar and club area. If you're visiting for the pubs though it's perfect.

Room Tip: For a quieter night try to avoid a room near the lift and stairs

“Well situated but extremely noisy hotel.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

I am typing these words at midnight. The disco below (or is it next to?) my room is in full, pulsating swing. I'm unable to sleep so it's an opportunity to reflect upon the room. It's actually rather nice. Clean, nicely decorated, freshly laundered towels, a TV, a DVD player, free wi-fi, neat en-suite bathroom (a shower, but no bath) and air conditioning.

The hotel is in central Newcastle right opposite one of the magnificent bridges and close to an assortment of bars and restaurants. I worried initially about traffic noise (silly me!) but, no, the double glazing keeps things quiet. Until that pile driver, blast furnace, Apollo-on-the-launchpad disco kicks in...

All this for £50 a night, a friendly welcome and breakfast included, via LateRooms.com.

If were able to sleep it would look like a bargain.

Room Tip: Fine if you are already deaf or insomniac.

“This hotel is not as dreadful as some of the reviews state”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

I looked at the Trip Advisor reviews after booking a 3 night stay at this hotel and to be perfectly honest I was dreading it. The hotel is situated in a central part of Newcastle. The rooms were exceptionally clean and the staff were very friendly and exceptionally helpful. Breakfast was excellent, with a choice of continental including fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt and you could also choose a cooked breakfast. Absolutely no complaints about any of it. If I wanted to find any fault it would be the smell on the stairs from the street to reception. We stayed from Sunday night to Wednesday, so the bar below wasn't open and therefore cannot comment on any noise. To be honest, you get what you pay for, this isn't a 5* hotel, but we didn't pay 5* prices. Good value all round.

“Noise from outside on Weekend will disrupt sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Staff are very friendly here breakfast is good full English plus continental including fruit yogurts cereals plus everything. The car park is opposite the hotel and is free but it's outside a nightclub so you worry about your car getting damaged by the drunks! We stayed on the 3rd floor which is suppose to be the quietest for the outside noise but we didn't sleep much and we can normally sleep through anything. We can sleep through thunderstorms and not know its happened wtc but we didn't sleep here! The room was sufficient although we could pick fault if we wanted. There is a smell on the stairwell but can't tell what it is. My husband says sewerage but I thought strong vinegar masked with fabreze so two totally different views we don't know what it was.
If you were staying to go out for the nightlife then the hotel would be fine otherwise stay away.
