“Good value but basic accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2009

Stayed at Hameau les Ages on a Family Active holiday with PGL. We flew to Limoges and hired a car to the site. The young team that looked after us were on the whole friendly and helpful. The accommodation is very basic and could have been cleaner. That apart you are kept very busy with all the activities and socialising with the other families. I have never been on a holiday with so many really nice families so that was a positive. We even spent our day off with a family we met there.
The food, thanks to Matt Nutter, was good. It was the kind of food that you would cook at home but it was tasty and there was plenty of it. Wine was available with the meal and you could have more than your complimentary glass.

To move up a level i really feel that PGL need to train their staff to appreciate the difference of dealing with children on holiday with their school and dealing with families.
They also need to move the cleanliness up a gear or two.

The mattress in our room needed to be replaced and i think it a false economy to have such a poor one.

Another negative was that we had to drive 90 mins for the activites on the lake since the usual lake was out of use. While this was not the fault of PGL, but they knew about it and chose to inform us one week before departure and told us that it was 45 mins away. This put a huge damper on the holiday and is the reason that i would not holiday with them again.

“Great Family Break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2008

WELL WORTH A VISIT

I have never done an activity holiday before but decided to book the family in at PGL to have a weekend doing physical pursuits and without a television - otherwise I knew we would spend most of the weekend watching it!

Our children had visited PGL in Shropshire as a week long school trip and enjoyed the activities but they both complained about the food. However, from making the booking PGL were brilliant. When I initially made the booking over the telephone, the staff were friendly and helpful. All paperwork sent was detailed and received promptly. The good thing with PGL is that it is an "all-inclusive" break and therefore the price per person, which is already very reasonable, includes all meals and activities. I had contacted Center Parcs before finally booking with PGL but found that by the time I had included food and activities into the basic price it was going to be an expensive break.

From the moment we arrived all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The accommodation is very basic but it is very clean and although we all had to sleep in bunk beds they were very comfortable and we were all so tired after a day of doing activities, it didn't matter. The food is also OK - canteen style but it was all fine with choices of main and you could eat as much as wanted. Staff went round filling up glasses with juice and making sure that everyone had everything they wanted and in the evening adults were even offered wine with dinner!

Now for the activities - brilliant! All the staff were really bubbly and encouraging. Everything was done in such a safe environment that you felt OK to try even the more scary activities.
I never thought you would catch me going down a zip wire or climbing up a pole and swinging on a trapeze. And they do pack a lot of activities into the weekend.

All in all - a good family break and very good value for money. However, it is certainly was the helpful staff that made this break even more enjoyable.
