“Excellent Christmas Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed for three nights in two standard rooms, which were excellent value for money. The rooms were comfortable and the bathrooms looked new and were spotless.
All staff we met (reception, bar, restaurant) were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food during our stay was very good, plenty of choice and cooked well. This hotel is also very suitable for dog owners, perimeter walk around golf course handy and lots of good dog walking nearby. Golf and Spa a bonus. I would definitely recommend the Ufford Park Hotel.

Thank you for your excellent review of your stay with us over Christmas - we were really pleased to read that not only you found us good value for money but that you would recommend us to your friends and would certainly stay with us again. It is always reassuring to read that throughout your stay you found our staff friendly and that nothing was too much trouble, the quality & choice of food excellent and that your room was spotless. It was interesting to read that you felt our hotel was pet friendly too - we are very lucky to be set in 120 acres of parkland and near some excellent walks. Thank you.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back again in the near future.

Kind regards

“Shame about the Awful Beds!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We would stay again as it wasn't bad value for money overall. The staff were pleasant on reception and helpful when the room we booked was not quite right. The restaurant staff were nice enough.
We stayed with friends overnight the rooms were ok if a little dark, gloomy and dated we were overlooking a car park at the back of the hotel with a skip/truck full of rubbish the room facilities were ok although the tv signal was poor the bed however was awful, hard and uncomfortable and made for a bad nights sleep. The bath water was only lukewarm and not piping hot and the tap dripped all night.
We ate in the restaurant and my fillet steak which I asked for medium rare was cremated the frozen chips were awful and inedible and not worth the Money. would eat elsewhere if we do return.

Thank you for your review - We were pleased to read that you would stay again and found us good value for money. We appreciate your comments about the decor of your room but as a family owned hotel and not a corporate chain, our bedrooms do vary in decor, layout, views and size, that is part of our charm and why people stay with us rather than with a chain. We are sorry to hear that your felt your bed was a little firm and uncomfortable - again this is quite a personal thing, as we have also had many of our guests comment on how comfortable they are too. We were however surprised to hear about your comments about your Steak not being cooked to your specifications, as our restaurant staff are trained to check with guests that they are happy when their dish is presented to their table. Having investigated this matter further neither the kitchen nor restaurant staff were made aware of your complaints on the night regarding your steak or the chips - Otherwise of course we would have immediately rectified the matter to your full satisfaction at the time. We apologise for the bath water temperature, maintenance have been informed, and we appreciate that you did bring this to our attention on the morning of your departure, when we undertand our reception team offered you the use of an alternative bathroom which you turned down. We are of course very sorry for this inconvience but felt that our team did do their best to rectify this matter at the time to your satisfaction.

Kind regards

“Christmas 2011”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We overlooked the car park but it was quiet and as a wheelchair user my husband was on the level for all the facilities. Ideally we would have liked to be nearer our family for contact/assistance (they were the other end of the hotel upstairs) but the staff were more than helpful and friendly which assisted us tremendously. The food was excellent we were more than surprised at the amount and variety. It was the first Christmas we had away as a family in a hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The hotel is well situated and our dog was able to have a good run daily in the nearby Rendelsham Forest. There are lots of places to visit if you have the time. We enjoyed the entertainment/swimming spa facilities. The staff were very helpful and polite throughout our stay and we would recommend the hotel as very good value for money. Didn't have time for the golf!

Room Tip: Overlook the golf course/view from upstairs

Thank you very much for your review regarding your Christmas Break. We were delighted to read that you felt our hotel was not only very good value for money but you still felt the quality and variety of food and facilities were excellent, as was our staff who were helpful and accommodating throughout your whole stay. We were pleased to read that you enjoyed exploring the local area with your dog but still were able to find time to visit our health club and spa - like you said perhaps next time your party might have time to visit the golf centre too.

We very much look forward to welcoming you back perhaps next Christmas but ideally before.

Kind regards

“Sleepless night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

Me and a friend went away for the night for a short spa break. We were very disappointed, the room was in a out building situated across the car park from the main hotel and needed updating, the shower curtain was hanging off and the bathroom had damp. We had dinner in the hotel which was ok apart from my friend who was vegetarian at the time having a ordeal when we found out the garlic bread had been cooked on a steak grill. . With meat products. The waiter cleared the plate at the table scraping food off with his hands. , , About 3am in the morning the fire alarm in our outbuilding went off, we got up and made our way to a empty reception area with no night porter to be seen! What if it had been a real fire? And we had been trapped, having to raise the alarm ourselves we wouldn't have made it out alive? He then failed to check the building thoroughly but assured us this was ok. When reporting this in the morning on check out the staff were not interested at all.

Thank you for your review but were of course disappointed to hear that your Spa Break had not been as relaxing as you had hoped for. It sounds like to stayed in our Lodge which is very popular with groups. As a rule it is only used when the main hotel is full or if not when someone has specifically asked for it. The fact that it is adjacent to and not within the main hotel complex is reflected in the price as a rule.

We are of course sorry that the alarm went off in the early hours disturbing your sleep, unfortunately these things can happen particularly when the hotel is full (some guests still try and smoke in their bedrooms!) But appreciate it is disturbing for other guests - the night porter would have almost certainly been investigating the room/area where the alarm had been triggered ,when you arrived at reception. The alarm system we have can pinpoint this exactly, which again may be why he had been quick to reassure you both that there was nothing to worry about when he did reappear.

With regards to your shower curtain, service & vegetarian food in the Restaurant - we will of course look into these matters immediately, thank you for bringing them to our attention. We hope that you will stay with us again when we are confident that you will have a relaxing and enjoyable break.

Best Wishes

“Fell short of the mark in several areas”

Stayed over for two nights over the New Year period. Reception staff greeted very nicely and all went smoothly there. Arrived at room to find it not cleaned or made up from last guests which was a disappointment. Decided to while away a little time in the bar area with friends who who also staying.Arrived back at our room later, all made up and ready for us. On retiring later, found the beds to be awful, they creaked on every move, I would consider them not to be of the highest quality. At breakfast time the staff were cheerful and we were shown to the same table we had eaten at for dinner the night before, with the fork that was on the floor when we arrived for that dinner, still in the same place at breakfast!!. Carvery breakfast, whilst reasonable, was as often is, almost cold. We had to change a couple of the cups as they were not well cleaned. The New Year Gala was very nicely decorated and the band excellent for the venue. We were asked if we wanted to buy Champagne for the midnight toast and were told we could only purchase a bottle, not by the glass. We decided to order a bottle anyway and waited for it's arrival prior to midnight. Around a quarter to twelve the waiting staff started to bring the Champagne orders to the tables, but they were already opened. We declined our bottle on this basis as we wanted the bottle opened at our table. The lady serving us was most put out by this and stormed off with the opened bottle and later came back a plonked the ice bucket and Champagne on the table without saying anything. All in all a disappointing stay for such a special break.

First of all can I apologise for the fact that your room had not been cleaned or made up upon your arrival. We have not been made aware that anything like this has happened before, we can only assume there had been a break down in communication between reception and housekeeping that day but nevertheless agree that it was unacceptable. You mentioned that you found your bed uncomfortable, we are sorry to hear that, they are on the firmer side but we equally get many guests saying how comfortable they are, all our beds do have an extra quilted topper on them but appreciate beds are very personal things comfort wise.

We will look into the points you raised about the restaurant and carvery breakfast as again normally we get excellent reviews about the quality of our breakfasts. We also appreciate that you were disappointed with the fact that your champagne had been pre-opened ready to pour for midnight and will certainly review this for next year.

Thank you for making us aware of your disappointment of what is normally a very popular and successful residential package. We would love to welcome you back again and be given the chance to reassure you that all the points you raised are not common practice.

Best wishes
