“Needs attention!”

Looked great on the site..not all that meets the eye!
Check in staff were superb - very welcoming and friendly. However the entire place needs an uplift.Carpets dreary and worn.Doors and walls scuffed, grubby and in serious need of renovating. The room was bland and average and i had one of the worst night's sleep in ages....the springs were sticking in my back!!! Could hear every sound even from several rooms away
The leisure facilities were excellent.Bar and bar food very average.Breakfast was similar.
The hotel really needs to "up its game!"They have a great location, good staff, and it could be a good hotel.

Room Tip: Spin the wheel!

What else would you expect in the middle of January. Once inside the hotel you can expect a warm wecolme from the staff. The hotel is well placed for a weekend in the unspoiled town Bury St Edmunds.
The Suffolk Hotel lacks the investment to grade it 4 star however the accomadation is acceptable.
The golf course is a little short of space as a large piece of land was sold for housing.
Great pool as it always empty. Jacuzzi warm enough to boil an egg. Good steam room and sauna.

“Not as bad as we'd expected”

This hotel had awful reviews because of decor!!! It was an emergency stopover for a couple of nights when another hotel became unavailable. This hotel was in a good location for us, and was extremely good value. We paid no more than we would have at a travelodge, and got the same standard of room-possibly bigger, with a view of the golf course-not a motorway, and a decent breakfast and a pool and steam room! We didn't use the bar, but it was closed earlier than most bars in hotels. Close to town without being in town, cheap taxi ride etc. Everyone seems to be complaining over nothing!

“Very Dated”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Firsty i must say that all the staff where very friendy and couldnt do enough for you, however the reception staff had no uniform so wasnt sure who was who when i arrived.
Sadly the hotel is very dated, on walking to the room the decor is very tatty with alot of paint missy from walls, doors had a bit of a sticky feel to them and a very strong musty smell.
My room was plenty big enough and had been presented well but again was very tatty with staining on the base of the funiture from what looks like water damage. The bathroom was much the same with mould and water damage on the walls, but shower very good.
I do not recommend the resturaut at all, buffet breakfast was pretty poor so much so that i had breakfast out on my 2 last days. I could only eat my evening meal there once, the food wasnt plesant.I had my dinner out for the rest of my stay, would recommenf the three kings just down the road which is within walking distance.
My Sleep was constantly disturbed by the lift and other corridor noise, comfy bed thouth.

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

I booked this hotel as a little get away treat for my boyfriend and I after the Christmas madness. I booked an amazing deal of £40 B&B for the night and am glad that's all I paid.

This seems to be a Golf Course with some leisure facilities that they have then decided to add rooms to.

I have been lucky enough to stay at some amazing hotels so I guess my review is a little biased (or you may say snobbish!) but whilst our room was large and clean with a decent TV, that was about it. It was very basic and there was no mini bar, safe, toiletries - although there were tea & coffee making facilities.

I was hoping to book a few spa treatments but they were full. Just as well as this is NOT a spa hotel but merely a few beauty treatment rooms.

The pool was a decent size and there was a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna but that was it. No nice pool side loungers or anything else you might expect from a 'spa hotel'

All in all this doesn't really feel like a hotel but definitely more of a golf course with rooms. But as I mentioned at the beginning I paid next to nothing so can't really complain. I guess it just wasn't what I was expecting

If you're going to treat yourself to a break in this part of the world then book into the fabulous Angel Hotel right in the heart of Bury St Edmunds
