“Wonderful, pleasant stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

After reading the negative reviews on here, I was worried to say the least as Im a very fussy person but my worries were completely unfounded. My boyfriend treated me to a romantic weekend away and Astor House didnt disappoint. We were greeted on arrival by the friendly owner, who gave us instructions on how to get into town, along with taxi numbers and a leaflet about the restaurants that Bath has to offer. We were in room 8 on the top floor which was beautiful (and we are more than capable of carrying our own bags up just 2 flights of stairs). Nicely decorated, perfectly clean and very comfortable. We spent the day in Bath and were greeted again by the owner on our return. Had a wonderful nights sleep and were greeted in the morning at breakfast by staff who served up a wonderful breakfast.

Everything about our stay was perfect and all I can think is that some people are just too fussy and like to moan.

“Loved this house and had a great stay”

I stayed at Astor House with a Russian friend for a night travelling the west country. We arrived to a note and a key to make our way up to our rooms - perfect, no false smiles and small talk with a stranger. We had two rooms at the top of the house. One with a view over Bath and one looking onto the street. Both were very clean and everything worked. We went out on the evening for food then drinking. We came back and went to bed to have a great sleep. We didn't have breakfast as we walked the 10 minutes into Bath for some food. £65 each a night was a very good price and the perfect little guest house for me. I stay at boutique hotels at £300-500 a night so I know what service and cleanness is - I also have high standards. Don't stay here if you expect someone to be on your beck and call - and you're too weak to carry your own bags to your room. All great.

“Just needs a decent poached egg for breakfast”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2010

We stayed for two nights. First impressions were inauspicious: had to park on the street and we were not met on arrival with instructions pinned up outside. But the room was comfortable and decorated with reasonable style (heading towards elegance and individuality).

Our room was at the back of the house which was perfect for a quiet night's sleep, helped in no small part by a very comfy bed. The electric shower was surprisingly powerful.

Breakfast was okay, just. My eggs were overdone both mornings. A bit more care and attention and it could be very good. That said, I think the person who usually runs the place was away when we stayed so the food may be better when she’s there.

The location isn't great. 15 minutes walk from the edge of the town centre which wouldn’t normally be a problem but you have to walk along a busy road which isn’t very enjoyable. The real pain is walking back uphill!

Overall we had a pleasant stay. Would we stay again? Probably not, but that shouldn't be seen as a criticism.

“don't stay here if you are a single traveller”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

First no one in on arrival just instructions left on the door.

Stuck up in the eaves... although it was a double bed I would be furious to be given this room if I was travelling with another. Extremely noisy both from internal noises and external. Every so often there would be a disconcerting plumbing noise that sounded as if there was a massive leak in the bathroom. Double glazing doesn't keep out traffic noise at all

Breakfast was pathetic. My breakfast must have been precooked and by the time I tried to eat it at 8 a.m it was indigestible.

Considering what I paid I AM MOST UNIMPRESSED.

“Pleasant Break”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2010

I stayed at Astor House for 2 nights over the weekend, I was slightly concerned after reading the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were bright and clean and well presented, what more can you ask for. Personally I think people expect to much.
I was pleasantly surprised with full English Breakfast which was very nice compliments to the chef, there were also several other breakfast options which also looked just as delightful.
The road in which Astor House is located in was very quiet the local Seagulls and Pigeons made most of the noise. Parking was available for 3/4 cars within the grounds plus there was also plenty of road side parking available.
Overall a plesent stay and I would stay here again.
