We spent three nights at Dorian House and for the most part it was a wonderful stay. We had a warm welcome on arrival, and indeed, the staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
The house is comfortable and warm and has been decorated and furnished to a high standard. Good quality bedding, towels and toiletries plus complimentary water, chocolates, biscuits and the beverage tray all lived up to the standard we have come to expect. The breakfast spread is awesome, one of the best we have experienced, and it's as well that there is an an opportunity to burn off some calories walking down to and up from the city centre.
So are there any downsides? After all, in my view tripadvisor is all about giving a balanced picture. Our quibble is with the cost of the room in relation to the size of the room. We paid £85 per night for the Solomon room which had no bath, no chest of drawers and I had to crouch down on my side of the room - as befits an attic room, the ceiling slopes so you risk banging your head. There is a rudimentary cupboard, which appears to have been an afterthought and tacked on to a spare wall ... it has 3 coathangers which have to be turned at an angle, as the 'cupboard' is not as deep as the width of a coathanger. This may sound niggardly, but we've paid this price in other places and had much more. But we've tried to balance this with two facts: one - it's the Bath Litfest this week and accommodation is at a premium. The Bath central Travelodge wanted £135 to stay on the same Saturday night we were at Dorian House, and there is simply no comparison between the two! Secondly, we were able to leave our car at Dorian House and walk to and from the city. This saved us a considerable amount in parking fees. However, there is no overlooking the fact that a double bed has been squeezed into what is ultimately a single room.
Please don't let this put you off staying at Dorian House, it is wonderful, but it might be as well to consult with them first what facilities each room provides.
Check with Dorian House first to check which room you will be allocated. The rooms at the front hav...
