“Comfy stay!”

we booked this hotel via their website, which Traveltura is managing (i think?), firstly i must say, that the staff Ryan from Traveltura, was awesome and of most help! his replies were efficient and polite and i must compliment him!

i have to admit that before we arrived in London we were a little worried at how our room would be like. when we checked in at the hotel, we were greeted by a korean lady, who allocated us with a room on the first floor. the room was quite old, the kitchenette at the front of the room upon entering, there was a large mirror there and a table, and then the toilet. to get to the beds we have to climb up a flight of steps, and there was a large mattress, with an extra single mattress as well. the window opened to the backyard where they were some remnants of construction work. while my boyfriend was alright with the room (he felt it was an interesting layout), i was a little concerned with sleeping with the windows open as we were both afraid of heat and stuffiness and i for one preferred to wake up being able to sit upright in bed but for this room i could stretch my hand outright while lying in bed and i would already touch the ceiling. BUT, we went down and voiced our concerns to the lady, and she did a quick check and handed us keys to a room on the 3rd floor for us to have a look! we did a quick check and took the room on the 3rd floor without hesitation.

our room was at the end of the corridor on the 3rd floor, and there was a lift in the hotel so it was prefectly fine. this room also had a small area kitchenette, which had a microwave, hot water flask and kitchen untensils. there was also free coffee and tea satchets which we appreciated. there was a double bed against the wall, and a lovely heater which we dearly missed when we were out of the hotel in the cold, haha! the windows opened fine and overlooked eardley crescent which the hotel was on. there was a little cupboard, mini table and 2 chairs. the room was small but cosy and i loved it. the water pressure in the shower was a little weak and took awhile for the heater to heat up, but wasn't a problem for us. there was a good supply of shampoo and soap and we had no complaints. no heater in the toilet though so it was a little chilly.

we both had huge backpacks but managed to pack/unpack our stuff without a problem, and we tried to put our stuff on the chairs and table so the cleaning lady wouldn't have a hard time. we actually had a pretty good stay and for the price we paid, we aren't complaining! everything is expensive in london and quite frankly i think some people do nitpick when it comes to rating hotels. coupled with service from Ryan (Traveltura), we definitely enjoyed our stay at Boka Hotel, and would like to thank the staff for their help. The guy at reception always smiled and greeted us, and helped give us directions when we asked. breakfast was always a delightful mix of bacon, beans, eggs and toast, there was also cereal and the usual juice and coffee/tea.

there was free wifi in the hotel which worked best downstairs in the dining room!

overall we had a good stay here and i liked our room 307 (i think), studio-ish feel to it!

Room Tip: i THINK rooms on the higher floors are newer, at least the corridors look newer! but we had room 307...

“Worst Hotel Ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

I booked this hotel because it was cheap and looked decent in the pictures, but I regret booking this hotel. First, I asked for a double room with a queen bed for my husband and I. When we checked in the receptionist never told me that the room she had given me had twin beds. I had to get on the elevator, go thorough a dark corridor, thru a door, down a flight of stair and there was my room #203. The room had a skeleton key and you could see the whole room through the key hole. Once we entered the room, the sink had tape on it because I assume it leaked and so did the faucet. The bathroom was clean but once we entered the mini room where the beds were it had a horrible stench. You could not sleep from the smell. I went down to reception to ask the person at the desk that I need a queen bed not 2 twins. She told me that at the time she could not switch the room because she had a booked hotel and I would have to sleep there the night and then maybe they could switch our room. My husband was not happy with the response nor the room and we checked out that same day! We did not sleep there, and we got ourselves another hotel. It was not a hotel more like a hostel! The room we got was very depressing as well.
I hope the review helps and really don't book this hotel you can get something way better for the same price or maybe a little more but I rather pay more than stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't accept room 203, it's horrible.

Dear Guest

I have read you review with great interest and whilst since I took over I am always encouraging people to leave reviews (good or bad they all help us perform as a business as we can see where we go right and more importantly where we go wrong) but I like many other hoteliers get very downhearted when people leave a bad review purely because they were unhappy that they did not get something they wanted when it is actually not the fault of the hotel !!

As you state you booked the hotel as it was cheap, which is exactly what it is, a budget style hotel, yet you complain that we did not give you a Queen Sized bed. We do not advertise Queen Sized beds in fact on the website you booked through it clearly states Standard Beds, Single, Double etc. So why you were so offhand and unforgiving with the receptionist when she could not give you what we do not have nor do we advertise is beyond me.

As for your room, we allocate what the agency or client books, your booking was allocated and when you informed reception you did not want the twin room booked the receptionist informed you that she could not move your room that night as the hotel was full but she did promise to move you the next day, which she did not have to do as she had allocated the booking as per the confirmation we had received, but she did offer as she wanted to try and help you , something you chose to ignore and instead complain about .

The room does not smell and nothing is held up with tape. In fact the description of your room and stay does not match that of another reviewer two reviews below yours at all, the reviewers name appears as Yavor A of Plymouth, this reviewer stayed in Room 203 as well and it is their second stay and they actually requested Room 203 for their second stay as they had that room before. Should any person reading your review wish to check that I am correct I am sure they can send a message via this website to the reviewer Yavor A to check if they stayed in Room 203 and their opinion of that room.

As for your comment about a skeleton key and being able to see your entire room through the keyhole, I am astounded. Yes the room has a key and a lock, and if you were to crouch down on your knees in the corridor, hunch your back at an angle and squint your eye at the lock you might just get a view of the mini kitchenette which is the first part of the room, the bedroom part is through another door beyond that. But then we don’t tend to get many guests crawling the corridors , contorting their bodies trying to look through peoples keyholes , obviously it is a practice you are familiar with , gladly we are not.

We are sorry you did not like the hotel and do hope you enjoyed whichever hotel you moved to.

“Poor Standards”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

We only stayed as it was in a close proximity to Earls Court Exibition Centre. You pay for what you get, in this case not a lot. I'm British and was asked for my Passport at reception, a very small room at the top of the hotel,an Attic. The waste bin had not been emptied from the previous occupants, fridge unclean, light bulbs missing, the water from tap in the bathroom was just a dribble, shower not much better, the kitchen area was not particulary clean, no glasses, roller curtain broken, the breakfast was just about palatable, furniture in the dining area looked as though it has come from a junk shop. The whole place could do with redecorating. Would I stay here again or recommend the hotel? not a hope in hell.

Dear Sir

We were able to trace your booking via your first name and location used in this review so can comment on the room you occupied R306 .on the third floor on Fri 2nd Dec for 2 nights , which is not in fact an attic ( this terrace has flat rooves no attics) but a fairly recent addition to the building being built / added on 4 years ago. We note the same review on booking.,com as well.but have no option to reply to you there so please do not feel we have ignored it.

Firstly may I say I do apologise if you feel unhappy about filling in a registration form on arrival, but whilst I apologise I am not responsible for the law of the country and it is and has been under current legislation since 1972 a legal requirement to register at a hotel ( as I am sure it was before that time ) . As you would have seen on the Registration Form it clearly states that under the Immigration (Hotel Records) Order it is a legal requirement for every guest over the age of 16 to register, it also clearly states and is highlighted that UK Citizens do not need to provide Passport Details but that Non UK Passport Holders do have to provide either Passport or Identity Card Details. The hotel has a legal obligation to retain these records for a period of 12 months and they have to be available for inspection by Police or by any person authorised by the Secretary of State if necessary, they are shredded after that 12 month period . So if you are unhappy with that I am afraid I will have to point you in the direction of the government as it is not an hotelier’s decision on which guests have to comply with the law. But as I say you were not required to give us your passport, merely register.

I have checked the roller blind in the room and it appears to be working correctly, if it was not on the day you were here I apologise.

Glasses, there are two on the top shelf of the kitchen cupboard, again if there were not on the day you were here I apologise, but there will have been 2 plastic wrapped disposable glasses in the room as well.

I will pass on your comments to our suppliers 3663 and the cook re a barely palatable breakfast, the bacon, sausages, beans, eggs etc are all delivered fresh by 3663 and cooked by our cook as people come for breakfast, as is the toast and cereal is help yourself basis. Coffee is freshly brewed.

Whilst the breakfast room may not be palatial it is awaiting a refurb and it is clean and not furnished from a junk shop. I will upload a picture.

We are sorry you feel that the hotel is so bad, especially as you did not mention anything to the 24 hour reception staff or breakfast staff, if people are unhappy and tell us we can try and help them with any problem.

Dear guest

We are sorry you feel this way, in the four nights of your booking you didnt like one room so were moved after the first night , you then did not mention anything else to reception at all.

The bed I can assure you is a standard double divan with base and mattress not two mattresses put together, when I get the chance I will post a photo so you can take another look.
